@ramez The key advantage of SMRs is mass production and deployability to where the power is needed - check out the FLEX reactor being developed by our sister company @MoltexFLEX for precisely this purpose :)

Pros and cons. Larger nucler reactors have thermodynamic advantages but have an average of >100% cost overruns, and no apparent learning rate. Smaller factory-built reactors are less efficient but have a chance of being delivered on time and getting cheaper and faster over time.
Omar Cheema@Vivantive

@ramez Technology learning curve cannot beat the rules of thermodynamics for a heat engine - upper efficiency limit, dependence on heat source temperature Economies of scale works against a SMR Expensive materials constraints cannot be avoided for radioactive shielding

@loganb @Vivantive @ramez We are most definitely 'real'! And we have a patented solution to controlling corrosion within our SSR reactors :)

@Vivantive @ramez I was thinking about @MoltexEnergy which keeps the fissile salts in fuel rods, which makes controlling the chemistry easier for the circulating salts. Idk how “real” they are, but they’re working on it in Canada.

We are fortunate that @CNL_LNC are supporting us in the development of our Waste to Stable Salt (WATSS) process. CNL’s expertise will be vital in validating the research we are doing in Canada and in our laboratory in Warrington, UK to create WATSS – which will be used to convert spent #nuclear fuel. We were delighted to welcome a team of CNL scientists to Warrington recently to observe our own researchers and technicians in action and work alongside them. Our huge thanks to the team for visiting, and to CNL for their continuing support in making our #technology a reality. #energy #nuclearenergy #netzero #climateaction

Our colleagues at MoltexFLEX are making great strides in working with the UK regulatory bodies and informing them about the FLEX reactor! #climate #ClimateActionNow #energy
MoltexFLEX@MoltexFLEX

#Safety-case informed design is vital to cost-effectively developing a low-cost, rapid-deployment advanced #nuclear plant – and that needs early regulatory engagement. We’re delighted that after industry discussion with @energygovuk and the regulators across the past year, @The_ONR and @EnvAgency introduced early engagement to open a dialogue with SMR vendors. We kicked off our early engagement with ONR and EA in September, with a hugely productive discussion on how our FLEX reactor will meet the principles of the UK’s world-renowned regulatory process. FLEX is built on passive safety – air cooled, walk-away safe, with passive reactivity control – and it was a pleasure to start discussing this with the regulators. #energy #nuclearenergy #climate #climateaction #netzero

Our CEO Rory O'Sullivan visited @argonne recently to see the progress that’s been made in creating a molten salt loop to test and validate our coolant salt! It’s one of the largest chloride salt loops in the world – we’ll be using it to model how fuel assemblies in our SSR-W reactor will function under different operating conditions, and gather data on heat transfer, corrosion and the salt’s behaviour. Huge thanks to the ANL team carrying out the amazing research with us. #nuclear #energy #nuclearenergy #cleanenergy #research
