I'm not bothering reading "Walter" Bloomberg but the CL market is showing backwardation and downward sloping prices as far as the back months go (that is, each successive month is lower than the previous earlier month). June 2026 CL settled at 102.50 on Friday but June 2027 CL contract settled at 74.36, roughly 28 dollars lower. Is that not a prediction of lower spot prices in the future?

Back when Chicago was great. The White Sox wearing shorts in 1976. 😃 On another note, let's make Illinois great again and flip it red.

@EndWokeness She looks 75-ish. Maybe has kids, probably has cats. Guessing she'll be shuffling off into the night in a few years, unmourned, unloved and unnoticed.

@michaelbd Never been to a game in Buffalo but I am guessing that the Jumbotron was showing the words to the anthem.

Besides American NHL fans what other subgroups on Earth are likely to know another nation’s anthem in its entirety?

Americans love banging on about the War of Independence. They’re quieter on the War of 1812. Here’s why. In 1812, America declared war on Britain. The plan was to march into Canada and annex it. Thomas Jefferson said it would be “a mere matter of marching.” It wasn’t. The Canadians sent them packing. Two years later, the British sailed up the Potomac. American forces collapsed at Bladensburg in what’s still called “the Bladensburg Races” because of how fast they ran. President Madison had already fled to Maryland. The British walked into Washington unopposed. They sat down in the White House, ate the dinner Dolley Madison had laid out for forty guests, used the President’s silver, then set fire to the building. Then they burned the Capitol, the Treasury and the Navy Yard. A freak thunderstorm put the fires out the next day. The British left when they were ready. It’s still the only time a foreign army has captured the US capital. You can see why it doesn’t come up much.

This summer, County Highway will put up billboards in six places whose names contributed to great American song titles and lyrics. Care to make a suggestion?

@aelfred_D My recollection is that Douglas MacArthur himself said that the Garand was "the greatest battle implement ever devised." If it's good enough for Earth, it has to be good enough for Mars, right?

Honestly, assuming they’ve compensated for the explosion of gas in a zero-G environment (one line of dialogue), I’m so down to invade Mars with a Garand

As lead counsel in #LoperBright, I would be quite happy to go over to the Hill and provide @rosadelauro and her staff with some info on the background, holding, and import of #SCOTUS's landmark decision in our fishermen's case overruling #Chevron deference! @CauseofActionDC

Nothing infuriates an uninformed Congressional Dem more than when they realize they voluntarily triggered a debate with someone who actually knows what they are talking about, reads federal statute and adheres to Supreme Court precedent. Today’s self-implosion by @rosadelauro was quite remarkable to witness. Without apology or regret, I will always adhere to the best available reading of federal statute pursuant to the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Loper Bright.

Tapper is a ridiculous person. Melania was angry that a guy—who we all know would be ecstatic if her husband was murdered—made a joke about the murder of her husband. That is not trying to stop all critical coverage. Only an imbecile would think otherwise.
Brian Stelter@brianstelter

>> @JakeTapper: "This crusade against Kimmel was predictable because the Trump administration's attempt to use Saturday's shooting as justification to stop all critical coverage, whether journalistic or comedic, of Donald Trump, that started even before the ballroom emptied..."

@ingelramdecoucy @Ronin0165 Guthrie's guitar with its "This machine kills fascists" sticker, at a time when hundreds of thousands were being shot at while fighting actual fascists. It is impossible to be any more self-important or self-unaware than Woody Guthrie.

There seems to be misunderstanding at X about subscriptions. I pay a premium (and it's pretty expensive) so I don't have to deal with ads. The last two days I have been getting a pop-up gives me the choice between "Turn on personalized ads" and "Keep less relevant ads". My choice is neither - that's why I pay hundreds of dollars annually. Please stop these pop-ups.

The Trump Administration is enlisting federal prosecutors in an attempt to fulfill their inhumane denaturalizations quota. Their goal is 200 a month. Naturalized citizens are citizens, period. They have the same rights and deserve the same treatment as those born here.  What’s become plainly obvious is that Trump’s deportation dragnet has never been about “the worst of the worst” – it's always been about terrorizing and demonizing our immigrant communities.

Breaking News: The Justice Department wants to revoke the citizenship of hundreds of foreign-born Americans, part of a push to increase the pace of denaturalizations, according to a U.S. official. nyti.ms/3Qqk4yy
