🚨 Suffolk’s $100 “Work Zone” Speed Trap 🚨 On a Sunday night at 7:37 PM, Suffolk mailed a $100 “work zone” speeding ticket from the US-58 SPSA Interchange — a time when no workers were present and traffic was light. This isn’t safety enforcement — it’s revenue collection disguised as safety. Suffolk is running cameras 24/7, ticketing people in so-called “work zones” that aren’t active, and pocketing millions from drivers who were simply traveling the normal highway speed limit. I’ve filed a Freedom of Information Act request to the City of Suffolk and VDOT demanding records that show: • Whether any construction was taking place that evening, • What authorization exists for enforcing reduced speeds when no workers are present, and • How much money Suffolk has collected through these so-called “work zone” citations. Safety laws should protect people — not fund city budgets through deception. More to come when those FOIA responses arrive.
