On this day 13 years ago, my only son was sworn in to the US Army. In ten days, it will be 12 years since he was killed in Afghanistan 2 weeks before he was due to come home. He was just 21. The amount of hate coming from Christians regarding the late Dr. Michael Heiser is disturbing. Most of these people haven’t even read his books. They just repeat misrepresentations of him. Dr. Heiser definitely challenged the way I thought about the spiritual world and the word Elohim. Elohim doesn’t always refer to God (Yahweh). In some verses it clearly refers to Elohim as other spiritual beings. The church doesn’t teach us this because so few want to correct church tradition. Dr. Heiser inspired me to dig into scripture and history and I wrote this article a while ago about the Sons of God in Genesis 6. I will forever be grateful to Dr. Heiser. I’m really not sure what you think is wrong with saying that “God of gods” means simply “God of false gods” or “God of beings worshiped as gods.” Perfectly straightforward, and also has the significant advantage of being orthodox and consistent with the rest of Scripture. Ditto “Lord of lords.” Dan 11:36: indeed, this passage becomes much easier to understand if “gods” is understood quotationally.

What do all these have in common? They imply that ordinary Christians, pastors, creeds, confessions, and centuries of biblical interpretation were missing the real meaning of Scripture until modern scholars recovered this hidden knowledge (gnosis) of a “lost world.” Same stuff with Michael Heiser. "RECOVERING the supernatural worldview of the Bible". Good thing he came along 2000 years later and recovered it. It might have been lost forever if not for Heiser. They all claim to have this secret knowledge that the church has been lacking for 2,000 years. They are the new Gnostics.
