I get the idea of changing perception... but that also assumes their behavior is not driven by intent. This is a regime that actively funds proxies, suppresses and murders its own people, and operates through asymmetric attacks to avoid accountability. During the Iran deal, billions in sanctions relief and returned funds didn’t fundamentally change their behavior... they still funded proxies and destabilized the region. So at some point it’s not just perception.. it’s pattern.

Countries want nukes because they make them harder to confront..But that kind of proves my point... If a regime that is openly hostile to the U.S. gains that level of protection, it doesn’t reduce the problem... it locks it in. So what’s the alternative? Just accept that reality and hope their behavior improves once they’re untouchable? Its not like they haven't been sponsoring terrorism around the globe for decades...within the last few years they assisted in Oct 7th, bombed u.s embassies, etc.. With North Korea, there was a huge risk (China, Seoul in range), so we chose containment, and now we’re stuck with a nuclear state. That’s the real lesson, in my opinion. And yeah, execution is always debatable... but waiting hasn’t exactly worked either. The point isn’t perfection. It’s that risk only gets harder to deal with the longer you let it grow.

North Korea proves the opposite of what you think...once a regime gets nukes, you can’t deal with them the same way anymore. They get to act aggressively under a nuclear umbrella and everyone has to tiptoe around it. Iran with nukes doesn’t mean “they’ll launch one tomorrow.” It means every proxy war, every threat, every atrocity becomes exponentially harder to stop. You don’t wait for the launch... you prevent the leverage.
