Geopolitical instability in the Middle East is doing more than disrupting markets — it’s actively reshaping how global investors assess and price risk in Africa’s energy sector. Africa’s risk premium has long been driven by perception rather than fundamentals. Today, however, external shocks — particularly from the Middle East — are influencing capital flows, insurance costs and investment decisions, effectively repricing risk across global energy markets. The article highlights that this shifting landscape is forcing investors to rethink traditional assumptions, as volatility outside the continent increasingly impacts project financing, timelines and overall competitiveness — even when Africa’s underlying energy fundamentals remain strong. As global energy markets fragment and risk is reassessed, Africa faces a critical moment to reposition itself — leveraging improved policy clarity, stability and investor engagement to attract capital in a rapidly changing environment. Read more to explore how Middle East instability is reshaping Africa’s energy investment outlook and what it means for the continent’s future. energychamber.org/africas-risk-p… Read French version here: energychamber.org/reevaluation-d… Read Portuguese version here: energychamber.org/reajustamento-…

Absolutely, being self-reliant is not just about staying away from aid or avoiding becoming subject to a hegemonic power. To be self-reliant means adding value to your natural resources, exporting them, and generating hard currency to purchase what you do not produce, including defense needs—above all, not being at the mercy of predatory lending. To achieve this, first and foremost, a country must develop its own energy infrastructure and be able to generate its own power from all sources, both renewable and nonrenewable, while also developing its export manufacturing sector. This is exactly how China🇨🇳 and the Asian Tigers #ASEAN started and grew. Early on, one may depend on imported energy, but ultimately, you have to be self-supporting. Energy independence strengthens economic self-reliance. 👇👇👇🇪🇷

Joint US-Eritrean Oil and Gas Exploration As the United States seeks to repair and strengthen ties with Eritrea and lift the illegal sanctions imposed on Eritrea, #America and #Eritrea could launch joint offshore oil and gas exploration projects. Eritrea possesses significant but largely unexplored oil and gas reserves. Amid the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Eritrea could emerge as a reliable alternative supplier of oil and gas to global markets, thanks to its huge untapped hydrocarbon resources. A US-Eritrean partnership would open these promising reserves to modern exploration and development, benefiting both nations through energy security, economic growth, and strategic cooperation. In the 1960s and 1970s, Western energy companies conducted explorations and achieved promising results. Eritrea should now invite international energy companies — particularly from the United States, Europe, or China — to drill using modern 3D seismic surveys and deepwater wells. During the 1960s–70s, companies such as Chevron, Elf Aquitaine, Total, Exxon, and Mobil recorded encouraging findings, including: •South Buri-1: Real oil was recovered during testing. •Danakil-1: Gas flares and traces of light oil. •Amber-1: Oil and gas shows. However, the war of independence halted further drilling. By partnering with American and other international energy firms, Eritrea can enhance its energy security, generate substantial wealth, and position itself as a reliable regional energy provider. Its strategic location on the Red Sea offers excellent export potential. Eritrea’s maritime territory is relatively safe and stable for offshore operations, supported by two deep-water ports and an existing oil refinery in Assab. Situated at the heart of global Red Sea shipping routes, Eritrea is well-placed to become a key player in international energy trade. This collaboration would mark a major step in improving Eritrea-America relations while delivering mutual economic and strategic benefits. @USEmbassyAddis @StateDept_NEA @AsstSecStateAF @_hudsonc

🚨 As I have been predicting for weeks, Washington has jumped into the hornets nest of Red Sea politics, holding secret meetings with Isaias in Cairo in a bid to increase its influence in the region by lifting sanctions on Eritrea. What will Eritrea do in return? How will Addis react? What does this mean for Trump's promise to restart GERD talks? How will this a US-Eritrea rapprochement affect the SAF and Sudan's war? And what will UAE and Saudi make of the US effort to enter Red Sea political debates, seemingly aligning itself against Ethiopia? Too many questions to answer. But what I can say is that the US is doing it all without a strategy with a used truck salesman at the helm. What could possibly go wrong?? wsj.com/world/africa/u…

🇪🇷 Eritrea’s Strategic Relevance in China’s Energy Future 🛢️The world is looking for new, reliable, and geopolitically stable sources of hydrocarbons. China remains one of the world’s most important long-term energy consumers. As global supply risk rises and sourcing becomes more politically contested, Beijing’s search for diversification becomes more important. 🎯For Eritrea, this creates an opening. 📍Eritrea’s strategic location along Red Sea routes, combined with its offshore geological potential, gives it relevance well beyond its current production profile. If hydrocarbons are confirmed and developed responsibly, Eritrea could one day serve as part of a diversified energy supply architecture for Asian demand centers, including China. 🎯A moment Eritrea cannot afford to miss. Do you agree❓

Despite challenges such as deeper water depths, difficult seafloor conditions, and complex geological formations, Eritrea's offshore drilling history reveals that of the 32 wells drilled between 1921 and 1999, the majority reported clean oil shows and significant gas shows. Notably, one of these, the Mobil discovery, experienced a gas well blowout lasting 60 to 70 days. There are many unknowns regarding these wells, and during my recent vacation in Eritrea, I spoke with several individuals who expressed interest in my experience in this field.
Nakfa Energy@NakfaEnergy

Why is 🇪🇷 not on the below list? It is the most critical natural resource Eritrea possess. FACT 💯: In 1969, Mobil experienced a significant gas blowout at the C-1 exploration well in the Eritrean Red Sea. The well, located offshore, flowed uncontrollably for 55 to 60 days. IMPACT 💥: The incident was a major event in early Eritrean offshore exploration, proving the presence of hydrocarbons, specifically gas. CONTEXT 🎯: The C-1 blowout, along with other findings, identified a large salt basin with potential for both oil and gas in the area.

The African Energy Chamber is doubling down on its stance: Africa’s energy future must be built on real inclusion, not rhetoric. Amid growing tensions around the Africa Energies Summit, the Chamber is calling for a decisive shift—urging industry stakeholders to prioritize local content, fair representation and meaningful participation of African professionals across the value chain. With ministers and industry players increasingly backing the boycott, the message is clear: platforms that benefit from Africa must also reflect its people, talent and values. This is more than a conference dispute—it’s a defining moment for how Africa’s energy sector positions itself globally.
