@BoxtheBase @PaulCubbage23 Fien is CF just about exclusively now, missing Seaver King and Ronny Cruz as highly ranked INF as well. Hoping on Brady House improving as well, a lot of other good INFs in the system too

Abrams and Mead don’t grade out well defensively, but the bats for sure play Fien can be a future 3B; I don’t know enough defensively about Fitz-Gerald Hacopian is an easy option for Future 2B… so I'll pass it to @PaulCubbage23. What would you do?

Ideal way rest of this year plays out (to many fans dismay) is a successful deadline (Griffin + a non core piece) sold for prospects. Nats struggle a little bit, move up in the lottery to #4 and take one of the 3 college arms for the title run
Matt Powers@MattPowers31

Just wanted to point out top of 2027 class could be special Prep bats (Dylan Seward), College bats (Brendan Lawson, Landon Hairston, Gavin Kelly, Tague Davis, Jimmy Janicki, Chase Fralick), college arms (Dax Whitney, Tomas Valincius, Chris Levonas), and prep arm Stryker Pence

@TheCurlyWDude Luckily not how the draft works, expect the Nats to use all of their allocated bonus pool + the allowed 5% overage

Jesus lol, I have never seen such low signing bonuses. Braves went big over on some of their picks but thought it was from Gracia + comp fix flexibility. This is almost insulting to these kids. Ready for the Nats figures to start coming out.
Carlos Collazo@CarlosACollazo

The Braves signed each of their college seniors in rounds 8-10 as well. They used these picks to create $653,300 in savings for their overslot HS players: 8th round Jacob Jarrell, $500 9th round Parker Brosius, $500 10th round Ben Zeigler-Namoa, $500

@fmdano74 @TalkNats @Nats0fTheFuture Bleacher Report usually super tapped in, but there is a case (I wouldn’t make it) for Nats to have fallen slight recently. Lots of the top arms are hurt and many of the bats outside of willits have struggled at new levels

@TalkNats Expect him and Browm Martinez to be in Fburg when the FCL season ends next week. Hopefully Nauris de la Cruz too. Will be extremely crowded at the lower levels with some draft picks filtering in as well (Hacopian, Brunson, Cuvet, Dugger)

@pdowdy83 Ya I am just saying the lefty arm slot here is similar to what we r targeting at the MLB level right now. Clearly the FO likes this archetype

@BaseUnstitched Great write up! I think that Harris and Williams r pretty different in terms of how “polished” they are at this stage tho. Cuvet feels like a profile who the current mlb drafting trends are undervaluing, really like the value in the 5th and think he outperforms

Ryan’s quick thoughts on the Nats 2026 Draft: - Toboni and Co have no track record, so it was hard to know exactly what they liked/were looking for coming into the draft - Hacopian has arguably the best bat-to-ball skill in the class, paired with an elite approach at the plate, and pairs it all with projectable pop. He could effectively the highest level quickly - Brunson is an outstanding athlete with 25/25 potential down the line. The approach at the dish is solid, and with refinement this could be a lightning in the bottle type pick. Has all the tools to stay in Center - Rounds 3-4 look like their “Overslot” plays - Both Luke Williams and Cooper Harris are high-end HS talents, but will take significant development to pull their potential - Cuvet in the 5th round reminds me of the Petry pick - which is off to a good start development wise a year later - Day two was a lot of arms that throw strikes, Nats are betting they can add velo and amplify the potential outcome Give us your initial thoughts on the Nats new front office’s first draft class!

@TalkNats Ya would love his batted ball data. Very low BABIP especially considering he is quick and playing in the FCL. Think he likely has too high of a launch angle issue (usually very fixable) as his GO/AO is 0.69, which is crazy low

Marconi German in the Florida Complex League might only be hitting .220 but he has a .414 OBP and a .415 SLG for a .829 OPS. He hit his 5th home run today in 45 games. Obviously needs more hits to fall-in due to an unlucky .272 BABIP.

@AJ_Lich I love the Nat’s draft as much as anyone but curious how the model ranks the above the cardinals? Does this account for how much additional draft capital the cards had?

Think the Rays area ahead of the game as usual. Teams are overly risk averse in a huge variance event due to desire for data availability HS players are now underrated by these models. Obviously no way to get data on it, but would be rly curious if this or NIL had larger effect
Ben Whitelaw@benwhitelaw73

This makes the Rays class this weekend even more interesting given the league-wide context. 10 of their 21 picks were prep guys (including 7 in the first 10 rounds) - the most in any draft for them ever!

@TalkNats Agree, honestly wish the Nats would be more aggressive in UDFAs. Not sure on contract terms but the padres for example have already made some very good signings this year. UDFAs have the same allocated $150k as Rds 11-20 so no reason we can’t have an interesting signing or 2

I like this better than scrap heap waiver claims. This gives you literally years to develop these guys in your minor league system as young and moldable. What scrap heap waiver claims tell you too often is they can't handle the "leverage" pressure. This is where the Nats have failed over and over. To me, Cornelio is an example of that.

@TalkNats @BaseballAmerica @ciarancaugheyy Yep have covered them briefly on my page but like Moore and Neubeck more than several draft picks. Last years UDFA success story is Carson Fischer who dominated in Fburg and now pitching well in Wilmington

Source tells us that the Nats have signed several college pitchers and hope to convert some to bullpen arms. The Washington Nationals have signed 4 undrafted free agents so far per @BaseballAmerica. Ciaran Caughey, RHP, Kent State @ciarancaugheyy Trevor Moore, RHP, Stanford closer per @JacobRudner Tony Neubeck, LHP, Indiana per @JacobRudner Tyler Papenbrock, LHP, Louisiana per @RaginCajunsBSB
