@ReemAmirIbrahim The sign doesn’t mean, ‘right now’ - you’ve taken it too literally. it means if we invest in our primary producers, there is no reason we can’t produce enough food to avoid reliance on foreign events.

Stephen Flynn on question time discussing capping on food saying he’s been outraged about those struggling ? Really ?? He looks really outraged in this photo indulging on a lobster and seafood platter ! Really relating to the reality of many in a cost of living crisis 🙄

@JamesMelville 'Worst'... depends if you mean 'on purpose' or by 'accident'? 1. Thatcher - 3 million on dole for life, UK manufacturing smashed all paid for by squandered revenue from oil boom. Many of today's problems with housing and cost of living find their root in her divisive policies.

@Wilbert90210 @JustSomeDude83 @JamesMelville This may be where the confusion is in this conversation. Oil producers in UK are subject to the Ring Fence Corporation Tax (RFCT) plus special levies. The tax paid at the petrol pump are targeted at consumers. They appear to be talking at cross purposes, perhaps on purpose?

It is being reported that Ed Miliband is likely to become the Chancellor of the Exchequer if Andy Burnham is Prime Minister. Yet, here he is getting completely schooled in this interview on energy taxes and prices.

@AnarchyRadish @OhYaaCat @BreberJohannes @madsssagascar Very true, as part of a design process Ai is amazingly useful. Art is a human process though, would anyone hang a Ai painting on their wall? That said, people often take a reductionist approach to art, so perhaps they would? On reflection, I don't think I give a fuck?

@JustSomeDude83 @JamesMelville There is a Northern European regional price, rather than global, prices available for gas. But oil is traded at international prices, essentially to highest bidder. Miliband is correct in saying a tax cut on Oil producers profits would not directly affect a UK per barrel price.

@JamesMelville If we drill for our own oil and gas in the north Sea and we keep it for ourselves then that doesn’t go to the international market value or does it? That questions to Ed Miliband who is full of shit

🚨 SHOCKING — These are the exact same Reform activists who flood X every day screaming, lecturing, and telling everyone how Britain should be run… Yet 24 hours after getting elected in Kirklees, they stand up in full council and admit: “I don’t understand the Constitution… I don’t understand standing orders… I don’t understand what an amendment is.” Then they whine it’s “not democratic” they might vote on things they don’t understand This is the terrifying danger of populist rage politics: loud online warriors with ZERO clue how to actually govern. Handing real power to people who don’t even know where to start is how countries collapse. Watch this embarrassment 👇👇👇👇CC: @LesTrumpeter

My daughter was elected as a city councillor when she was 18, the youngest in the country at the time. (11 years ago) She worked her butt off beforehand (and afterwards) to ensure she knew all there is to know about how local government works. She was brilliant and did some important work. She knew all this backwards before she got in the chamber. This is outrageous incompetence. I wouldn’t dream of voting Reform, but this should give pause to anyone remotely considering it.
Parody Nigel Farage@Parody_PM

New Reform councillors off to a great start by refusing to vote on anything because they haven't a clue what anything means, how anything works or what the fuck they are doing. Vote Reform, get lazy, incompetent, ignorant morons.

@ricoclay @implausibleblog Another Labour blunder, Grangemouth used to produce jet fuel - shut down, indifferent labour looks on. Quite why that isn't regarded as a national security concern is a mystery to me?

@implausibleblog We don’t have the capacity or capability of being able to refine this oil in the UK anyhow so it would have to be shipped abroad to be processed

Lady in yellow, "Rather than weakening sanctions on Russia so we can buy their oil. Would it not be better to drill in the north sea?" Surely any oil from the North Sea ends up on the international markets anyway, so how does that benefit us in terms of pricing and supply?

@implausibleblog Raises revenue for UK, protects UK jobs, denies any benefit to Putin and it's even less carbon intense than shipping oil from Russia.

Look around the town you grew up in. The post office is closed. The library is closed. The bank is closed. The pub on the corner is closed. The bins come once a fortnight. The roads are patched with patches. The streetlights go off at midnight. And your council tax has tripled. You pay more. You get less. Every year. Where did the money go. To debt interest. To consultants. To officers with titles you cannot pronounce. While the road outside your house breaks open. While the buses stop running. While the kids' playground rusts. You pay for a country that no longer exists. Bailey debases the pound. Reeves spends what is left. Starmer pretends none of it is happening. Three names. One racket. Your home town. This is what slow ruin looks like. And it is only just beginning I am sorry to say. Protect your family now and Opt OUT!

@omguk2024 @LesTrumpeter All these documents are available to the public on council website. Disgraceful that these bullshiters haven't even attempted to understand the process before asking to be elected to the role.

Hardly surprising is it! These are often not career politicians and therefore the old constitutional language is not familiar to them.. Educate them If they were third worlders they would be educated. Every Single person in their position has failed us so the least they can do is train the newbies who have had to come in to restore order amongst these clowns.

@Scampicus @King0243_PJC @louderry There's something fishy here. I wonder if it's something similar to the report that if there's a newly elected Reform government they'll refuse to work with them?

@Scampicus @King0243_PJC @louderry The constitution and standing orders are available on the council website. Staggering that not one of these new Reform councillors had the gumption to acquaint themselves with the process, before recommending themselves for the position? So what is it, hubris? Plain old thick?

@King0243_PJC @louderry Well in fairness and I’m no fan of Reform, in a good Council the CEO would strange a comprehensive induction course with all the necessary back up information to explain everything. No one is born knowing this stuff. I was in Loc Govt & we had to do it every 4 years.

Labour will try and take credit for this reduction in net migration. But it is mainly due to the visa changes that I introduced as Home Secretary in Dec 2023 and which Labour opposed at the time.
