@Lib_Development Back when I bike commuted every day I could get anywhere in my city within 10 miles faster than a car during rush hour. It wasn't even close either. We're talking 15-20 minutes faster.

while walking, riding transit, or driving. I can scroll twitter while walking or taking transit. Biking goes 0 for 2 on “things I would like to do with my commute”

@criticalurban I can do this to: Walking is convenient, easy, comfortable, and fun. Biking is convenient, easy, comfortable, and fun. Both these methods of travel are more accessible (fewer barriers to entry), are net positive to health (unlike cards), and don't dependence on Big Oil.

Lots of quibbling about whether eating meat is absolutely wrong in all cases.
What I can tell you is that factory farms cause tremendous suffering, and ~98% of American meat is factory farmed.
Fix animal welfare on farms if you want to keep eating meat.

@Milk413213 @JakeLandauTO Almost all crops are grown with artificial sulfur based fertilizers. Sri lanka tried to go the animal waste only fertilizer route and it was a total disaster. There's also the inconvenient fact that 80% of all crops grown on earth are grown to feed livestock. Meat is inefficient

I eat meat and she's right, I fully understand that vegans and vegetarians have the moral high ground here, I look forward to the increased prevalence of lab-grown meat in grocery stores so that we can legislate bans to natural farming.

@JakeLandauTO I am also a meat eater that gives people with plant based diets the respect they are due. Many of them are also sober rawdogging life to the fullest and will outlive us all. They're like gods to me.

@_rum_pumpumpum i had meant to say seal hunting, which is very important to inuit people. as someone who grew up learning about indigenous cultures and practices i am of the opinion that they probably love and respect animals more than most vegans who hold this opinion

@criticalurban We don't need to treat this is as a zero sum all or nothing game. I own a vehicle but I also cycle and take transit or rent an electric scooter through an app depending on what is most convenient at the time. We can and should have multiple transport options in a developed city

The space taken up by automobiles is more than commensurate to their high utility. Cars allow people to drive anywhere they want on demand. Mass transit limits mobility to the fixed times and locations and makes you dependent on a third party.

Was there some kind of dramatic discovery of new benefits of hydration in the last ten years? We never carried water bottles around all the time until recently and nobody I know of shriveled up and died of dehydration in all those years.
