One thing to ask modernist EOs is if in 2016, if all the clerics there were so theologically illiterate that they believed Iasi 1642 and Jerusalem 1672 were “Latinized”. Make sure to save for when u have a EO larper friend who keeps coping about the universality of the post-schism councils.

"Recognizing that God upholds the freedom of men and women in the unfolding of history, the Second Vatican Council affirmed the distinction between the ecclesial community and the political community, emphasizing that each must operate with full autonomy. The Church’s presence in the world is also expressed through her relationship with civil society and public institutions. By engaging with these entities, the Church acknowledges the value of social and political realities and honors their specific responsibilities, supporting everything that fosters the wellbeing of individuals and strengthens the fabric of society. The Church does not claim to assume the functions belonging to the State. On the contrary, she esteems those who serve the common good, and she firmly acknowledges the responsibility that civil institutions hold within society. At the same time, the mission entrusted to the Church prompts her to address the real suffering of the men and women of our time. This closeness does not stem from an intent to supplant civil institutions, much less from an implicit criticism of their work. Rather, it stems from evangelical charity, which impels the Church to draw near to the wounds of humanity whenever they surface with greater severity. When the Church intervenes, she does so following the example of the Good Samaritan, with discretion and closeness, aware that what arises from urgent necessity cannot become the norm, nor replace the institutional responsibilities proper to the civil community." (Magnifica Humanitas, Ch. 1, n. 21)

@bryan_johnson Genuinely, you should try the Daily Office of the 1928 Book of Common Prayer, Morning and Evening Prayer take like 15 minutes each and it’s magnificent.

I've been praying the past few weeks. Unsure why. There's good evidence behind prayer. It mimics breathwork, calming the nervous system, dropping cortisol, and quieting the brain. Daily prayers show lower depression, anxiety, and pain. I'd like to develop a prayer practice. Growing up, the protocol was written for me. Explaining whom to pray to, the structure of the prayer, and the boundary conditions. I don't really know how to pray now.

Theologically speaking, Roman Catholicism basically has just two main saints: Augustine and Aquinas. Especially after the second millennium, RC theology is derived 80-90% from them, and every other saint is just an appendix. In Protestantism, they derive pretty much everything from St. Augustine as well. A lot of converts to Orthodoxy come in with this "one-guy church" or "two-guy church" mentality as their reference point, and they refuse to adopt the holistic mindset of Holy Orthodoxy. St. Augustine doesn’t even come close to the impact of St. Gregory Nazianzen, St. Gregory of Nyssa, St. Basil, St. Maximus, St. John of Damascus, St. Cyril and St. Simeon in the East... and I’m not even mentioning the Desert Fathers. Yet they still cling to a kind of sectarianism that’s completely alien to Orthodoxy, because they refuse to let go of their previous views or at least try to harmonize them with it. I’ve said this before, but there’s no such thing as Augustinian Orthodoxy. Anyone who defends that idea is no different from the heretics of the early church who formed their own parallel groups centered around a single person.

Can someone explain to me why so many people are obsessed with St. Augustine? People treat him like the 13th Apostle

The problem with the post-Conciliar ethos is that far from establishing an authentic Christian humanism after the image of Christ, it established de facto a ‘religion of Man’—liberty, fraternity, equality. It’s an obsession.

When I was an 8 y/o girlscout a police was lecturing us on alcohol use and alcoholism. He said ”Alcoholism is when someone drinks regularly” I said ”My parents like a glass of wine every Friday, are they alcoholics?” He looked me square in the eye and said ”Yes.”

pastoral suggestions for use of the 1979: -ask for episcopal permission to move to the BCP lectionary -at mass, 2 readings, psalm between. pick the two that fit ur homily best -begin Rite II mass with the Decalogue -skip EP C, it’s confusing for everyone. otherwise rotate EPs

@sirronaldfisher @angcathalex Note that the Decalogue is the assumed default and the Summary of the Law is given as an alternative. I do appreciate the wisdom of the people who made this rubric in providing it be said at least once a month, I have never challenged this rubric.

@NiceColorsss @angcathalex Continuing Anglicans follow the rubric in the 1928 BCP and say the Decalogue once a month. Similarly, “the Exhortation shall be said on the First Sunday in Advent, the First Sunday in Lent, and Trinity Sunday.” (not every Sunday)
