Torah Jews
Torah Jews@TorahJews·
Yikes. Starting on the wrong foot. Judaism is not an ethno-religion, nor did it “begin” 4,000 years ago in the land of Israel. In fact, the Torah was given by G-d at Mount Sinai in the desert, prior to entering the Holy Land: “And today you have become a people” (Deuteronomy 27:9). That’s when we became the Jewish people. Our sages teach that Hashem gave us the Torah without a common land to show that it’s not external trappings that make us into a people. This is elementary knowledge in Judaism yet Zionists don’t even know this…
Noa Tishby@noatishby

What Is Judaism? Judaism is one of the world’s oldest faiths — an “ethno-religion” combining shared ethnicity, beliefs, and traditions that have evolved over thousands of years. It began around 4,000 years ago in the land of Israel, rooted in the belief in one God and a covenant that continues to shape Jewish identity today. It’s an identity carried across a global diaspora, and a living, evolving practice passed from generation to generation. New episodes coming every Monday and Thursday at 11am ET throughout May. Smoke can clean the air better than some chemicals. A study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology analyzed the effects of "medicinal smoke" - specifically the combustion of wood and a mixture of odoriferous and medicinal herbs - on airborne pathogens. The goal was to see if natural smoke could function as an atmospheric sterilizer. The findings were significant. The researchers treated a closed room with this medicinal smoke for one hour. They found that it didn't just mask odors; it decimated the bacteria. Within 60 minutes, there was a 94 percent reduction in bacterial counts. Even more surprising was the longevity of the effect. While chemical sprays often evaporate or dissipate quickly, the smoke treatment maintained a cleaner environment for 24 hours in a closed room. In an open room, specific pathogenic bacteria - including Staphylococcus lentus and Enterobacter aerogenes were completely absent even 30 days after the initial treatment. This indicates that the smoke possesses strong bactericidal properties, capable of eliminating diverse plant and human pathogens within a confined space. It challenges the modern assumption that air quality is only improved by filtration, This modern data validates a practice that dates back thousands of years. Indigenous cultures worldwide have long used smoke for purification. In India, the havan ritual involves burning specific herbs to purify the environment, while Aboriginal Australians have performed "smoking ceremonies" for roughly 60,000 years to ward off bad spirits and cleanse the land. Read the study: "Medicinal smoke reduces airborne bacteria." Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2007

The health insurance industry hopes you never hear this: Medicare for All would save the average American family over $12,000 a year. Gone: monthly premiums. No premiums. No deductibles. No copays. No surprise bills. No “out-of-network” traps. No $500 ambulance bill months later. That is why they spend $150 million a year lobbying Congress.

The U.S. federal government has a ghost. His name was Aaron Swartz. At 14 he co-wrote the code that powers every podcast on Earth. At 19 his startup merged into Reddit. At 24 he was a Harvard fellow studying corruption. In 2011 he downloaded 4.8 million academic papers from JSTOR. JSTOR declined to press charges. The federal government did not decline. 13 felony counts. 35 years in prison. $1 million fine. For downloading research. His lawyer warned the prosecutor he was a suicide risk. The prosecutor's response, on the record: "Fine, we'll lock him up." While he waited for trial, he built one last piece of software with two others. A way for any whistleblower in the world to reach any journalist in the world without dying for it. January 11, 2013. Aaron died by suicide in his Brooklyn apartment. He was 26. His father said at the funeral: "Aaron was killed by the government." A Marine named James Dolan kept the code alive. Iraq War veteran. PTSD. He installed it at The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, The Intercept, ProPublica. December 2017. James died by suicide in a Brooklyn hotel. He was 36. Two of the three creators are dead. Here's the wildest part: The repo's first commit is dated January 11, 2012. Aaron died exactly one year later. To the day. The code is still alive. Last push: today. 3,804 stars. 706 forks. AGPL-3.0. Audited by Bruce Schneier. Used by 65+ newsrooms across the world. Two dead developers vs. the most powerful government in history. But DO NOT use SecureDrop. We should all let the government keep its secrets. 100% Open Source. (Link in the comments)

It’s Maternal Mental Health Week and we need to talk about something that doesn’t get enough airtime: Toxic positivity in motherhood is harming women’s health. The constant pressure to feel grateful. To “soak in every moment.” To call exhaustion “a blessing.” No. You can love your child deeply and be overwhelmed. You can feel grateful and struggle. You can choose motherhood and still grieve the parts of yourself you’ve lost. When we silence the hard parts, we isolate women. When we sugarcoat the reality, we delay support and mental healthcare. When we normalize suffering, we ignore solutions. This isn’t about being negative. It’s about being honest. Because honesty is what actually gets women help.

@IT_unhinged Imagine having to fly by helicopter to an offshore gas platform in order to plug in a fax radio. I told them it was a fuse problem just so they didn't feel stupid. They moved stuff and unplugged their radio. Easy 24 hours of billing.

Zia Yusuf says Reform will detain "tens of thousands at a time" of migrants. Receipts: • Britain's biggest prison, HMP Oakwood: capacity 2,106 • Entire HM Prison Service: 88,000 places, 99% full • Cost per detainee per year: -£46,000 • Reform's costed plan for any of this: zero pages They can't run a Wetherspoons, let alone a gulag.

To use modern parlance, the final boss of tautological place-names in the UK is Lake Semerwater in Yorkshire. Old French lac (lake) Old Eng. sæ (sea, lake) mere (lake) wæter (water, lake) Middle Eng. lac Semerwater Modern Eng. Lake Semerwater Meaning - "Lake Lake Lake Lake"
