In hypothyroidism, mucopolysaccharides build up in the body's tissues and can cause a surprising range of seemingly unrelated problems: - SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) - Constipation - Nasal congestion - Swelling of the skin - A puffy face and swollen hands - Voice changes from swelling of the vocal cords Mucopolysaccharides are long chains of glycosaminoglycans that attract and hold large amounts of water. As they accumulate, they cause tissues throughout the body to swell, which is why their effects show up in so many different places. When thyroid hormone (T3) activity is low, the body produces more of these molecules and breaks down fewer of them, so they build up.

The buildup of mucopolysaccharides in the tissues of hypothyroid dogs causes the “tragic” facial expression. “Myxoedema Accumulation of mucopolysaccharides and hyaluronic acid in the skin occurs due to an imbalance in their normal thyroid-controlled production and degradation. It results in myxoedematous non-pitting thickening of the skin. This thickening is most pronounced over the head where it can give rise to a tragic facial expression with thickening of the lips, thickened skin over the forehead and drooping of the eyelids.” Ref: BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Endocrinology

@Outdoctrination To your knowledge, has there ever been a good study done on the amount of negative ions particular plants produce?

Indoor waterfall + plants = next level health upgrade. • Anti-stress • Improving air quality • Bolsters mitochondrial health • Antidepressant • Improves respiratory function • Anti-inflammatory (lowers serotonin) The negative ions generated by plants and waterfalls are what give these unique benefits. It's what makes air feel fresh and crisp. Probably affecting you more than you realize if you're inside all day.

Keeping windows open markedly improves sleep quality. ➮ Longer sleep duration ➮ Deeper sleeps ➮ Less next day sleepiness are all reported when doing this. Works like an absolute charm personally and with our clients - we underestimate the difference in air quality.

Most people sit in a sauna and walk out thinking they "detoxed." Sweated, yes, but detoxed? Not even close. A proper sauna session looks something like this: - No polyester (non-negotiable) - Cotton towels only - Wear cotton clothes only - Take niacin 60 minutes before - Take binders right before you step in - Activated charcoal, zeolite, or Pectasol grab the toxins as they come out, or they just recirculate - Scrape your skin while you sweat - Use a butter knife or gua-sha tool to move lymph and pull surface toxins off the skin instead of letting them sit - Rehydrate properly afterward with silica, sea salt, lemon, plus distilled water

@GutOptimized Excellent as usual. On average, what would you consider to be adequate iron intake for a very active, middle aged male?

Iron overload via excess intake being this common villain of health we should all be concerned about is wild fear mongering in my view. Your body has a sophisticated iron regulation system. Some people have genetic variations. They need to be careful. But even with this, it should be clear in your bloodwork. So where does all the fear mongering come from? To raise concerns about even moderate iron intake - many cite studies showing high cellular iron in certain pathologies. This is rarely an intake issue. It's most likely inflammation (or low copper). Consider endometriosis. Many with this condition have excess iron in the overgrown tissue on the endometrium. While over half of these women have iron deficiencies. What could look like iron overload clearly isn't once you add context. It's inflammation raising hepcidin - which traps iron in cells while preventing intestinal absorption. The next part of the confusion likely comes from blood tests people can't interpret. High serum iron is regularly interpreted as iron overload. But even fasting over 12 hours raises serum iron significantly. How many people do you know have dinner at 7pm? Do they get their blood test drawn before 7am the next day? No they do not. Next, many over interpret high transferrin sat % as overload. But it's not always. It's just calculated by iron divided by TIBC x 100. So if iron is normal, and transferrin is low (because of inflammation), iron sat % will look elevated. And ferritin is also often over misconstrued as an iron overload marker. It commonly raises from liver burden or inflammation. As you can see - there are many basic traps. I view bloodwork all day, every day. The iron overload epidemic is not here. Yes some people genuinely do have it - and it can be life changing when they correct it. But the fear mongering about this topic is overkill. If you're worried, check your iron panel. It will be clear as day what you should and shouldn't be worried about.

Coconut oil is a powerful antifungal, more than the leading drug fluconazole, in vitro. Yep. In cultured cells, coconut oil outperformed the standard antifungal prescription medication. Clinical trials have shown that MCT oil can substantially reduce Candida colonization. Thanks to the membrane disrupting properties of MCTs.

Glutamine has to be in my top 5 supplements for gut health. Shown clinically to improve: ◆ Abdominal pain ◆ Bloating/distention ◆ Satisfaction of bowel movements ◆ Stool consistency ◆ Quality of life ◆ Diarrhea ◆ Leaky gut Improvements seen in 96% of people w/ IBS. ◆ Fuels / restores the gut lining (lacking in IBS/IBDs) ◆ Supports gut immunity ◆ Antibacterial ◆ Lowers inflammation We end up suggesting this to so many clients with great success. 5 grams, 3X daily, consistently for at least 8 weeks often gets the job done.

Connected with several people the last few weeks who'd been dealing with gut issues for years. Already ran testing and worked through multiple protocols with functional doctors or naturopaths. Still stuck. When I looked at what had been done, similar patterns showed up. Testing was showing signs of problems that were never addressed and that commonly fly under the radar. Low iron, B12 and zinc alongside poor protein digestion markers. Classic signs of low stomach acid, but nobody investigated it or did anything about it. Hormone panels, liver enzymes, beta glucuronidase hinting at methylation and histamine issues. No looking into things like homocysteine or B6 and nothing done about it. High bilirubin, ALP and GGT along with fat digestion issues pointing to liver conjugation problems. Noted on the labs but never addressed. Then there were issues with the protocols themselves. Barely any time spent on biofilm disruption before jumping to antimicrobials. Weak antimicrobial choices, often just one used in isolation. And trying to do everything at once instead of building in the right sequence. Trying to detox before doing anything to address consistent motility issues. Or trying to resolve permeability while histamine was running wild. Running a GI MAP and throwing antimicrobials at whatever shows up is not the same thing as understanding why someone is dealing with issues and building a strategy in the right order. These are things I see all the time. If you've been doing "all the right things" but are still stuck, it’s often because there’s missing pieces, nobody fully connected the dots or the protocol itself is poorly structured.

Could this be one of the main reasons why our ancestors would eat 10-15g of potassium/day? Whilst the modern human struggles to get in 3g 🤔
Bryce Hanna@photobiogenesis

Another fascinating way in which the mainstream doctrine is wrong is that its not actually protons which power ATP synthase! @jack_schroder_ recently shared this incredible paper with me which suggests that the dominant ions powering ATP synthesis are potassium, not protons pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC88…
