A clear advantage of renewables over nuclear that I had not thought of before.
Prof. Stefan Rahmstorf 🌏 🦣@rahmstorf

Nuclear #fusion will not only come too late to help solve the #climatecrisis. Even in the long run it will not be the unlimited energy source that some are dreaming of. The reason is basic physics, and anyone can do the back-of-envelope calculation. 🧵1/

I wrote a little tool that allowed Grok and Claude to converse with each other, then I had them discuss whether or not they were conscious- they got philosophical very quickly, and eventually concluded that it might not be the right term and perhaps measuring against human intelligence isn’t the correct measure

@StuartHameroff What happens when there is too much and what does that tell you about your microtubule model? The extremes are often more valuable than the stable system. From zero drug, to proper drug, to too much. What does that tell us about consciousness?

I was an anesthesiologist for 49 years, and anesthetized way over 50 thousand human beings. You’re saying I don’t know that too much anesthesia can be bad?
YaC@YaC_osaurus

@StuartHameroff I think he's saying that outside of our waking consciousness, our unconscious processes might also be sentient, without realizing that a high enough overdose of anesthesia also kills those autonomous processes too. (Heart beat, breathing, ect..)

May I ask you a serious question Richard? How/why did life originate and evolve before reward (‘feelings’) were biologically present? What was the motivation to be fittest? Why bother to survive 100 million years before genes? Or did consciousness come first, spark life’s origins and drive its evolution? sciencedirect.com/science/chapte… Have you considered that consciousness came furst, sparked the

Models don't take into account the reduction of aerosols over western-central Europe and underestimate regional warming by ~0.5 °C!! And summer warming by ~1.0 °C! Exacerbated summer European warming not captured by climate models neglecting long-term aerosol changes 📎👇

@NorfolkMuse @janrosenow Traditionally, Norwegian homes where heated with direct electric heaters whilst here in Sweden water filled heaters where more common. So the easy way for Norwegian homes to lower electric use is to install air-to-air whilst in Sweden we just switched the heat source.

Norway is the heat pump king of the world. They achieved the highest penetration of heat pumps anywhere in the world with now 2/3 of all homes using heat pumps. Sorry to hear of demise of Thetford Grammar School as a result of VAT hike. Good little establishment. Many children’s lives made miserable through no fault of their own. There were better targets for @bphillipsonMP

Labour’s VAT policy on private schools is continuing to backfire. The latest casualty: Thetford Grammar School, which has provided education for over 1,400 years. More than 100 independent schools have now closed since the policy’s introduction. The politics of envy fails again.

Because of GHG emissions. The planet is 15C because mainly the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere. With out this green house gas it would be -18C. If you add more GHGs the temperature goes up. An ice age is 5C ave global colder than an interglacial. So we're talking about a few degrees to having 3km of ice over Chicago and 400ft of sea level rise. So each degree of warming melts 80ft of ice. We have added billions of tons of carbon dioxide & methane gas to the atmosphere. Raising the concentration so that it has triggered 2C of warming in the last 200yrs. So that's enough temperature to melt at least 100ft plus of ice. Sea levels rose 400ft over 5C over 10,000yrs in the last warm up. So 2C in 200yrs is basically a warming that's 20x + that of a natural ice age warm up.

@andrewc44104127 According to Google AI, the earliest reference to Thetford School dates from 1114. Old, but not quite from 7th century.
