Since 2015, in partnership with the Government of Canada, we’ve supported Weekly Iron-Folic Acid Supplementation in school-based nutrition programs, reaching over 2.6M adolescent girls across Banten & West Java. This initiative showcases the power of multi-sector collaboration, with the ministries of Health, Education, Religious Affairs, and Home Affairs working together to deliver sustainable interventions at scale.

Thank you @MekdesDaba, Minister of Health Ethiopia for the excellent conversations and for your support - also about the centrality of nutrition to child survival. We are with you @NutritionIntl
Mekdes Daba@MekdesDaba

I held productive discussions with @JoelCSpicer , President and CEO of Nutrition International, on strengthening 🇪🇹's nutrition programmes and advancing multi-sectoral collaboration. In our discussions, we underscored the importance of evidence-based decision-making to effectively address malnutrition & to ensure that high-impact interventions reach the most vulnerable communities. We agreed to enhance coordination and work more closely to accelerate progress and deliver sustainable improvements in nutrition outcomes.

Today, government leaders & partners launched the national rollout of double-fortified salt with iodine and folic acid (DFS-IoFA) to prevent neural tube defects. Ethiopia has Africa's highest NTD burden — 80 cases per 10,000 births. DFS-IoFA offers a game-changing solution, building on the country's successful salt iodization program that reaches 90%+ of households. Clinical trials confirm it rapidly raises folate levels, helping to prevent NTDs, stillbirths & low birthweight — for just $0.01 per capita per year. Proud to partner with @FMoHealth, @EPHIEthiopia, @GatesAfrica, @ethio_Industry and @EthiopiaMinist1 to give every child the healthiest start in life. #Ethiopia Minister of Health H.E. Dr. Mekdes Daba, said during the launch: “It is an obligation for all of us to use the results of double-fortified salt research to prevent birth defects, not just treat them.” This collaboration between government, @NutritionIntl and partners will help ensure healthier starts for mothers and newborns across the country. More updates coming! #NutritionMatters #FoodFortification @FMoHealth @EPHIEthiopia @GatesAfrica @ethio_Industry @EthiopiaMinist1 @MekdesDaba
