@allenanalysis Trump's style is to tweak the Left, to get them off balance. He is't seriously considering running for a third term, and if he did, there's no chance his base would support him.

JUST IN: A Trump judicial nominee was asked point blank: is Trump eligible to run for a third term? Their answer: “I would have to review the actual wording…” Sen. Chris Coons then asked every nominee in the room to confirm the Constitution bars a third term. Silence. Every single one of them refused to say it. Trump is appointing judges who won’t affirm the 22nd Amendment to his face. Never stop connecting the dots.

@allengarvin @billybinion It’s legal only because they have the power and influence to make it legal. How do you think the tax code gets written? Big business spends a small fortune on lobbyists to save a bigger fortune on taxes.

@Ostaley @billybinion I defend them because it's in their self-interest to take advantage of legal tax deductions, just like it's in our own self-interest to do so.

@allengarvin @billybinion Weirdly, I don’t have an army of lobbyists, attorneys and accountants that help write the rules in my favor. And unless you work for Amazon, why are you defending them? They don’t need your help

@Ostaley @billybinion "Scofflaw". It's a scofflaw in the same way everyone who pays taxes it. Maybe you're a "standard deduction" scofflaw. Or a "mortgage interest deduction" scofflaw. You can choose to virtuously not take those deductions, you know.

@billybinion Now do Amazon. Maybe it’s not fair to conflate Bezos with his company but Amazon is a world-class tax scofflaw and Bezos set the tone.

A lot of people seem to believe Jeff Bezos has hundreds of billions of dollars sitting in the bank. No. The vast majority of his wealth is in stock. The years he doesn’t sell, he’ll pay less in taxes. In a year he sells, he’s taxed a TON—far more than most will pay in a lifetime.

I do think the idea that Obama ran as a centrist in 2008 overstates things. He wasn't a wild-eyed radical, but the whole premise of his campaign, particularly the primary was we needed to go beyond Clintonian centrist triangulation.

Dallas has the distinction of being a huge metro area without a defining flair. LA has Hollywood, DC has politics, NYC has Broadway & more. Dallas doesn’t have that. When friends visited, we ended up at a water obstacle course in a nearby town because…what else was there to do?

I loved the friends I made in Dallas—people really did seem nicer there. But it’s atrociously hot, extremely spread out, and has no defining character. I also left within 5 years. You stay there if you have a reason to.
Amy Nixon@texasrunnerDFW

I am astounded by the number of millennial families who moved to Dallas, bought a home, then turned around and sold the home to move out of Dallas, in less than a 5 year time span Is Dallas just super transient or is this a post-pandemic phenomenon happening everywhere?

@SeanTrende The entire economy imploded. Anyone with a D was winning. He sort of ran on being a post racial America(which of course he made far worse) which had alot of appeal which Clinton couldn’t do. He’s an extremely overrated politician and his entire legacy is in ashes.

A central fallacy of boomer mythology is that their parents were shocked and scandalized by the Beatles, or Mick Jagger or whatever. It’s absurd, but they need it.

The case for free buses is actually really strong. They take people off the road, and make traffic better for everyone. At the very least, we should not expect them to make back their expenses at the farebox. Read it all below:

I live in London and I take buses all the time. I perhaps live in a particularly well-served area, but a bus is almost always a preferable alternative to the tube. Particularly late at night when people often make eye contact with strangers and chat - there can be a real sense of a tiny temporary ad-hoc community with good humour as the law. Not always, obviously, but surprisingly often.

@Chris_arnade @captgouda24 Infrequent service, often buses don't come at scheduled time, need to make transfers to go where you want, bus stops and bus stations are where unruly and poor people hang out.

@michaelbd This would be compelling if we ignore the fact that Andreesen and his cohort of centimillionaire and billionaire tech bros ARE the establishment. It’s rich of them to complain about the ills of social media that they themselves created.
