@Bonesaw1799 Of course not, we can only fund massive resource extraction projects. Anything other than that is unacceptable I guess.

@AndreaMicieli Hello It's 1970 calling, it wasn't popular then and it isn't popular now, it will however be a SNC scandal for the next generation

This is popular, the Liberals know it, and I’m not willing to lose the 416, 905, and 519 seats the Conservatives gained because some think the party is a cult and the leader shouldn’t be criticized. I have no problem defending the re-election of those Conservative MPs. Do you?

The full results of AltNo’s anti-HSR survey conducted by @abacusdataca probably come as a bit of a disappointment to them. Cross-party support for the project.

@Prominent_Bryan He’s near the end. They’re throwing shit at the wall hoping something sticks. If nothing’s sticks he’s going to be gone in due time.

@globepolitics What is in that MOU that Carney will not release? Isn't the BoC independent and non-political, why is it part of this delegation?

@Pajamaparty3rd @JasonUrness @KirkLubimov Considering the California govt is left wing, and the Canadian federal govt is left wing, there’s a high likelihood the Canadian project would face the same issues.

I understand the CPC knows it has no chance of winning an election any time soon but I don't get what it even offers people anymore; > campaigned against deporting foreign students who scammed their way into Canada. > not against mass immigration. > can't table a budget without billions upon billions in deficits. > supported Liberals budget and other policies. > won't end reconciliation grift. Now, they are against high speed train that is in their own platform. Ok so you think the project is bad, then tell us how you will build world class country and infrastructure. CPC needs to give people something coherent.

@EScrimshaw While he’s probably close enough ideologically to fit in this version of the party, I genuinely can’t see him ever crossing because of China issues. I respect it, he has personal reasons for those views that are totally understandable.

Updating the model right now, and found a fun outcome - Michael Chong’s seat of Wellington-Halton Hills North is an exact tie #PotentialFloorCrosser?

@cfwpepw @PrairieCatboy The Bloq can say whatever they want, Quebec as a whole is overwhelmingly in favour of it. You can argue however you want but this project is extremely popular across the country. It’s one of the most popular things on a bi partisan basis that the government could even do.

@Pajamaparty3rd @PrairieCatboy BQ just came out against it. The opponents are organizing and has hired lawyers. They’re building a database of endangered species and are cooperating with First Nations that have laid claims. Good luck.

@wayne1914749333 @BeautifulCana1 There are 3 bye elections that will decide whether we have a majority, and another when NES inevitably resigns. Voters will have the final say on whether it’s a majority.

Bloc leader Yves-François Blanchet says, though they were initial advocates for high speed rail, they do not support how the Carney Liberals are attempting to implement it but overriding jurisdictions and with massive land acquisition.

@WatcherAfar You’ll obviously disagree, predictably, but most Canadians do see Carney as a new government that represents a different vision and approach for Canada. Only people who see it as a continuation are CPC hardliners.

@peteremcc @SENYYZ You are legitimately an idiot if you think air travel can be any further streamlined. Also you wouldn’t have to deal with essentially any of that with HSR. Seriously how stupid are you? Have you never been on a train?

@SENYYZ @Pajamaparty3rd I'm confident the private sector will do a better job at making air travel efficient than the government-run airports do. Besides, you're assuming you won't have to deal with that kind of crap on a HSR. The government will probably mandate ridiculous security screenings too.

@cfwpepw @PrairieCatboy Ya I’m sorry but if you’re going to prevent progress because of individual cases rather than thinking of the larger picture you will never do anything great. You can’t let a small percent of the provinces get in the way of a project that will benefit multitudes more.

@Pajamaparty3rd @PrairieCatboy Hundreds of thousands of people. One farmer near me will have his property bisected by the fenced in rail. To feed his cattle he’ll have to drive 45 minutes to get around the track. Thousands of other examples like that.
