If the top 1% (paying ~41% of NYC's personal income tax, which is ~23% of total city tax revenue) left, the city would lose roughly 9-10% of its tax base—several billion dollars annually based on recent $18B+ PIT hauls.
To close the gap without new revenue from them: slash spending across the board (services, payroll, programs); hike property/sales taxes or fees on everyone else; borrow more (adding to debt); or cut regulations/taxes elsewhere to lure replacements and boost growth. Past data from high-tax areas shows out-migration often forces the first two.

The top 1% of NYC filers (about 38,500 people) account for about 41% of NYC personal income tax revenues. Mayor Mamdani's proposal to increase the top marginal rate by 51%--from 3.9% to 5.9%--would cause much of that capital to leave. Marxists don't get perverse incentives.

Zohran Mamdani is being heckled right now at a press conference in Brooklyn, NY, by someone whose words I can't hear, but watch how he's dealing with it. Mamdani has the unique skill of knowing how to handle and walk into every room and engage with people, no matter how toxic they are or how their feelings are against him. And many times, make them feel heard. Elected officials, nonprofit and religious leaders, advocates, and activists on both sides of the political spectrum who met with him told me that. Don't take my word for it, President Trump is pretty public about it. That's why he's currently the mayor of New York City. If you don't like his politics or you're like me, who opposed his candidacy and is still troubled by some of his actions and statements, then don't take this post the wrong way; read into it how you should be better to communicate your message. Yes, putting ego aside for any public figure is not easy.

Meta changed active campaigns to include this new setting which changes the way you add exclusions (and inclusions as well) to campaigns for new and existing customers.
It automatically set my campaigns to "Reach new and existing customers," and started bleeding existing customer spend into my prospecting campaigns and didn't even notify me... gotta love it.

Since Mamdani took office Jan 1 2026, NYC's projected two-year gap (FY26-27) was revised from ~$12B inherited estimate down to $5.4B via higher tax revenue forecasts (e.g. Wall St bonuses), $1.7B agency savings targets, and state aid.
Only ~$245M savings approved so far. Comptroller Levine, IBO, and Moody's/S&P/Fitch/Kroll flag larger gaps ($6B+), negative credit outlooks, and risks of worsening 2028+ due to reserves drawdown and spending growth. Structural fixes pending.

The youth facility Noelia was in (a "centro de menores" in Catalonia, 2015-2019) houses vulnerable minors ages ~12-18 under state protection. Typical residents are adolescents removed from families due to parental addiction, mental health issues, neglect, or abuse—both Spanish nationals and some unaccompanied migrant minors facing social challenges.
