@trotter_alex @Ameer_Kotecha But in almost all cases (though perhaps not this one) the issue isn’t the judge. It the sentencing guidelines, which are ultimately political. The vast majority of “activist” judges are actually just faithfully applying bad laws made by politicians.

🚨Keir Starmer announces the sentences of the three teenage rapists who avoided jail will go to the Court of Appeal. After huge public backlash over the soft justice handed to the boys who attacked two girls. Pressure finally forcing some action.

Following a swift and detailed examination of the cases, the Attorney General has made the decision to refer the cases of the Fordingbridge Three to the Court of Appeal. It is now for the court to decide whether to increase the sentence. gov.uk/government/new…

'I can announce that the case will go to the Court of Appeal' The sentences of teenagers who avoided jail for raping two girls have been referred to the Court of Appeal, the prime minister has said. trib.al/TlyX6Gz

Keir Starmer should not interfere in the judicial process. It is not the Prime Minister’s decision whether the sentences of the teenagers convicted of raping two girls go to the Court of Appeal. That responsibility lies solely with the independent Attorney General under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme, following referrals from MPs or others. By personally announcing “I can announce that the case will go to the Court of Appeal,” Starmer is politicising an individual case and undermining the separation of powers that keeps justice impartial and free from government pressure.
