This is surreal. The father of a 25 year girl who was gang raped, attempted suicide but failed and then opted for assisted suicide, tried to prevent her death and this MP asks “how can we stop this happening here?” If one of my own children were in such a situation I would move heaven and earth to try to save them. Any parent would. This is inhuman. 👇
Adam James Pollock@AdamPollock

When you couldn’t think the assisted suicide supporters could stoop any lower… Here’s Tom Gordon MP criticising the father of Noelia Castillo, the girl who died by euthanasia after being gang-raped, for trying to save his daughter’s life. Absolutely appalling.

At root, western liberalism sees humans as cost centres that exist to be managed and eliminated if too expensive… euthanasia is branded as “freedom” but is social eugenics in the guise of “compassion”

🇪🇸 25-year-old Noelia Castillo Ramos has been euthanized She suffered from borderline personality disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder The European Court of Human Rights found no obstacles and ruled that she had the right to die, despite her father’s efforts to save her.

NATO members are obliged to support one another if attacked, not to join wars of choice. That stipulation was made at the demand of the US, which also insisted that the commitment be territorially limited. “The treaty does not cover the entire world,” said Dean Acheson. “It applies only to the North Atlantic area.” He made clear that this had been the key American condition. “We deliberately avoided any implication that we were undertaking a global military commitment.” The Senate, worried about being dragged into European colonial wars, had threatened to refuse ratification unless the limitations were explicit. As John Foster Dulles put it: “If it were made global in scope, it would not be acceptable to the United States.” Despite all this, the only time that NATO has gone to war was indeed out of area, at the request of the US after 9/11.

🚨During the Westminster assisted suicide Bill’s Commons Committee Stage, pro-assisted suicide MP Tom Gordon criticised the father of Noelia Castillo for trying to save her life, smearing his efforts. Don’t expect that assisted suicide supporters here would stop such cases!

Meanwhile ‘Le Figaro’ today reports that adult baptisms in France’s Catholic Church will exceed 20,000 this year, a third record year of surprising growth in a famously secular country.

Gosh. This is significant… Today a major update on the Quiet Revival research from @biblesociety has been issued. It’s emerged that the YouGov data they were working with was flawed. It’s very unexpected and disappointing for all involved. Bible Society dealt perfectly honestly with the data they were originally given but say: “It was only at the beginning of March that YouGov confirmed that it failed to activate key quality control technologies that protect the sample from a wide range of errors and this undermines the reliability of the results.” You can read the statement at their website: biblesociety.org.uk/the-quiet-revi… I’m glad Bible Society are making this clear statement about the research. Given how far and wide the data has been circulated it’s important for transparency. In the final episode of our most recent season of The Surprising Rebirth Of Belief In God we did a deep dive interrogating the figures. Now we know for certain that the figures are unreliable. But, as was also mentioned in that show, it’s also important to remember that Quiet Revival was just one data point among many pointing towards a reawakening of faith in many parts of the West. The ‘rebirth’ is by no means disproved by one flawed set of data. I’ll be writing an article with more reflections on this major piece of news soon and what it means for whether we are seeing a ‘Rebirth’.

Bizarre article from @dignityindying’s Prue Leith, who thinks Sarah Mullally has “led” a “filibuster” (she has spoken twice), that Mullally proposed “200…amendments” (actual figure: zero), and that the bulk of amendments have been tabled by “just seven peers” (actual figure 50+)

Lammy says his attack on jury trials is needed for efficiency. Today Sir Brian Leveson blew that excuse apart. Labour are attacking this ancient English right for ideological reasons. We will fight them every step of the way.
Joe Robertson MP@JoePJRobertson

"I don't blame jury trials at all." That's the verdict of Sir Brian Leveson - Chair of the Independent Review of Courts - when I asked why trials are taking so long. So why is David Lammy and the Government scrapping jury trials for so many?

Today is the Feast of St. Margaret Clitherow, the Pearl of York. A Roman Catholic convert in Elizabethan England who refused to attend Anglican services, raised her children as Catholics and harboured Catholic priests. Her barbaric execution sent shock waves all across Europe.

This is De Gaulle with his daughter, Anne, who had Down’s syndrome, on a beach in Brittany 1933. He doted on her and she lived with him and his wife all her short life at a time when children with disabilities were regularly institutionalised. She died of pneumonia in 1948 aged only 20. He carried a picture of her with him for the rest of his life. He was buried alongside her. A tale of unconditional, unlimited love.

British history seems to consist in large part of us making the world objectively better for everybody, getting no credit for it, and then once our empire was exhausted the same people we helped cynically lying about our history in order to get money from us.

As Ghana calls for reparations and the left wing media rush to reinforce the white guilt some may feel, it is notable that none use this photo of a British Sailor removing the chains from a freed slave. Great Britain ended the slave trade and paid in blood and coin. No charge.
