@domluszczyszyn But there's no guarantee there will be so-called "better" match-ups down the line. Look at the history of the NHL since the early 1980s when they went to the 16-teams format. There have been A LOT of upsets from weaker teams deemed to have little chance against the Goliaths.

@Trevor_Neufeld St.Louis seems to always be a bad matchup for the Flames, throughout history (except 86). It feels like games against them, especially in St.Louis, end up with a multi goal loss.

The St. Louis Blues are 8-0-0 against the Calgary Flames in the Ryan Huska Era. Every loss has been (+)60 minutes of pulling teeth. Finally at peace with losing games to get a higher pick, expect the #Flames to break the streak tonight. The hockey gods like to laugh.

The Western countries boycotted the Olympics directly because of that war. The fact they changed direction soon after doesn't take away that it happened.

@PoolsMcPools @Buccigross The Soviet/Afghan war lasted until 1989. There were 3 Canada Cups staged during that time, and no one banned the Soviet hockey team from any of the Olympics through that conflict.

The 2028 World Cup is an NHL/NHLPA for profit initiative. Zero politics-just pure hockey Patriotism. Would you ban Russian players from playing in the NHL?--Maybe you would--But they are not. Then why and how would you ban union members from an NHL/NHLPA event? The event is selling the game, not making statements. A huge majority of fans want Russia in. The players want Russia to play. And the NHL should want it. They make a major contribution to the business of the NHL. I'm a little surprised the PA would agree to a tournament without all of its members. And if other countries are threatening not to allow their NHL players to play in a fun and awesome hockey tournament, then I'd say, "OK. You can tell your players that."
