Mississippi’s 2nd Congressional District (Bennie Thompson’s seat) was drawn with obvious racial bias. In 2022, state lawmakers openly packed Black voters into one long, snake-like district along the Delta —keeping it ~60% Black Voting Age Population — citing the old Voting Rights Act to “let them elect the candidate of their choice.” Race was the main factor, not compactness or communities. That’s textbook racial gerrymandering. The new Supreme Court ruling in Louisiana v. Callais (2026) changes everything: race can no longer be the predominant factor in drawing maps. Time for Mississippi to redraw fair, compact congressional districts based on geography — not racial targets. End the racial engineering. Support redistricting now!
Both the Hart-Celler Act of 1965 and the additions to it in the early 90s need to be repealed. So many examples of putting American citizens last in those pieces of legislation.
