@scott_irey Not bad for a first attempt. Like anything, it takes some practice and trial and error. Even after you've mastered it, there will still be some good batches and bad batches. Keep it up and may God bless your hands!

Used the special Prosphira pan. Came out like i expected. It looks commercial for lack of a better term.

@FrLillie Sold our home in 2020 to go to seminary only to be completely priced out when it came time to get assigned 3 years later. The Lord has certainly taken care of us, but I imagine we’ll be renting for the foreseeable future. Glory to God.

@byzantinetx This has been a practice in my family for many years. Another priest and his family set the example for me before I was even married. Great to incorporate into dinner.

How to read the Prologue with your family. 1. Suppertime is a good opportunity. Read the next day's entry at the dinner table. 2. For your family it might be better to read before, during, or after dinner. See what works. For example, don't force "best manners"-level attentiveness on hungry kids just back from soccer practice. 3. Don't worry about reading the entire thing to start. Depending on age of children, you may never read it all. 4. For smaller kids, ask them what words mean and link to stories they know. 5. For older kids, ask about the broader ideas or quiz them on how to apply the readings to their lives. 6. Hand out portions to read to everyone who can. 7. "Missing" a day doesn't mean "catching up." Life happens and you'll get it next year. 8. You may get inspired and try to do print-outs or watch videos. Fight that urge. Keep it simple to start. 9. Reinforce learning when they go to church by pointing at icons or have them listen for a hymn mentioned in the Prologue. 10. Find an inventive way to give a child the "honor" of fetching the book. Great at chores today? Got up on time? YOU get to bring me the book and maybe do the first reading. sebastianpress.org/the-prologue-o…

Today I experienced the unthinkable. I’ve spent most of the day at the hospital in a movie-like setting. One of the victims of the mass school shooting event in Minneapolis this morning is a girl from St. Mary’s Church where I serve. Please pray for Sophia and all the victims.

1/ Things are definitely different now. For example, I've been a priest for a long time. People would sometimes stop me as a random religious figure, not knowing what I was, to ask for prayers. Now, more and more often, when I'm in a store, random people will stop me, recognizing

I have known Fr Vasily for about a decade (though I am still getting used to calling him by that name) and I think he is eminently qualified for this ministry in the Church and pray God blessed him and his flock in the years to come. Αξιος! orthochristian.com/169946.html

Saint Isaac the Syrian offers us 30 exhortations on the joy of humility: 1.Allow yourself to be crucified, and do not crucify others. 2.Allow yourself to be wronged, and do not wrong others. 3.Allow yourself to be slandered, and do not slander. 4.Be gentle, and not zealous or evil. 5.Rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep, for this is the sign of purity. 6.Be ill with those who are ill. 7.Weep with sinners. 8.Rejoice with those who repent. 9.Be a friend to all people, but also alone in your thoughts. 10.Share in the suffering of all, but with your body remain distant from everything. 11.Do not rebuke anyone and do not condemn, not even those who are very wicked in their way of life. 12.Spread your cloak over the one who has erred and cover him. 13.And if you cannot take upon yourself his faults or accept his reproach and shame in his place, at least bear with him and do not shame him. 14.If you cannot find peace in your heart, at least keep peace with your tongue. 15.And if you cannot order your thoughts, at least order your body. 16.And if you cannot work with your body, at least grieve in your mind. 17.And if you cannot keep vigil, at least keep vigil sitting or even lying on your bed. 18.And if you cannot fast for two days, at least fast until evening. 19.And if you cannot fast until evening, at least guard yourself from being sated. 20.If you are not pure in your heart, at least be pure in your body. 21.If you do not weep in your heart, at least clothe your face in mourning. 22.If you cannot show mercy, at least speak as a sinner. 23.If you are not a peacemaker, at least do not be a lover of disturbance. 24.If you cannot strive, at least do not be lazy in your mind. 25.If you are not victorious (over sins), at least do not boast over those who are guilty. 26.If you cannot silence the one who slanders your spouse, at least guard yourself from joining in with him. 27.If you love gentleness, remain in peace. 28.And if you are deemed worthy of peace, you will rejoice at all times. 29.Seek wisdom, not gold. 30.Clothe yourself in humility, not in silk. Seek to obtain peace, not a kingdom. Here, brother, is my exhortation: let mercy increase in your soul until you feel in your heart the same mercy that the Lord Jesus Christ has for you. @a_westgate Forgive me I wasn’t trying to call anyone out in particular. More to remind myself not to let people’s ignorance (eg, those who dishonor the Mother of God) steal my peace. May God be with us all.

@Protoklitos423 Thank you Fr, you’re right. It’s a daily temptation to engage with these posts, I see the screenshots even though I have them blocked. Something about purposely dishonoring the Theotokos gets me fired up. I will keep your words in mind.

We apparently worship a different God. If the saints are dead, you worship a god of the dead, not the living. Happy Mother’s Day to the Theotokos who is alive and seated at the right hand of Our Lord ☦️

@RRR0BYN My wife had several of my kids reading before they were potty trained. My 9 yo was reading at 2.5. Now he helps read psalms and is learning to chant in church. It was a combination of free videos on YT (preschool prep) and using the old McGuffy Reader (allinonehomeschool).

@FrBarnabas I once read in a book that Fr. Stephen Freeman wrote, “Christ came not to make bad men good but to make dead men live” and I try to remember that everyday.

Here's the difficulty. Too many people think God wants you to change your behavior and be a good person. But that's not it. God wants to heal you from death. The behavior changes as a result of your freedom from death. Christ is risen!

I grew up across the street from a huge Catholic Church. At the age of 5 we stopped going due to some, um, issues there. Later, as an adult, I saw my self as best an agnostic and worst an atheist. On December 31st, 2018, I had been living for the longest time as a functional alcoholic. That night I dropped to my knees and for the first time in my life I prayed to Jesus for help. I can’t express to you the honesty, desperation and sincerity of that prayer. I woke up the next day w/ no desire to drink, and haven’t had a drink since—An absolute miracle. I pray, every day. I thank God, everyday. But, honestly, I’ve never fully read The Bible. The point of this post is to let you know that I’ve decided to change that. My goal for the next 365 days? Read The Bible from cover to cover. I will be sending out quick daily updates on my progress, and, as always, I appreciate the support so many of you have given me the past 6+ years.
