A wonderful story of compassion and why #CopsCountPoliceMatter from the @Hapeville_PD. 𝙋𝙤𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙫𝙞𝙖 𝙃𝙖𝙥𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙚 𝙋𝘿 𝙁𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙥𝙖𝙜𝙚: “Officer Colleran was dispatched to a call wanting a juvenile removed from the area. Officer Colleran made contact with a young man who explained he was in the area because he wanted to do yard work: pulling weeds, cutting grass and trimming hedges to save up for a PlayStation. The young man was polite, respectful and truthful. Officer Colleran, a gamer himself, was impressed with the young man and thought he would help him reach his goal. Officer Colleran and some of his friends were able to not only get this young man the video game system but a gift card to pay for the membership so he could play immediately. Officer Colleran made sure that this young man knew they would play on the same team online soon! #wearehapeville

New study finds that a police bicycle patrol unit in a well-established drug market improved social conditions and got drugs off the street, but had a significant **opposite** effect on violent crimes and shootings. Link to the article is at the end of the thread:

On Thursday, July 13th, SMPD's Chief, Ramon Batista, testified before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security and Enforcement. “I work in policing because of all the law-abiding residents whom I feel lucky to call part of my community. Undocumented immigrants who live and work with dignity in #SantaMonica are a part of my community, and I take seriously my duty to keep them safe, just as I do for all U.S. citizens.” For more visit: tinyurl.com/yskpr379

Like the work of keeping our communities safe so too is the profound significance of human interaction. The genuine connections we foster, the empathy we share & the relationships we forge. One life at a time, #believe in the ideal of seeing one another, wherever we are.

US police agencies continue to face major staffing challenges, new PERF survey finds. While hirings rebounded in 2021, retirements and resignations continued to grow over the past 2 years. And overall staffing is down, especially among large agencies. policeforum.org/critical-issue…

America Police Mourns. In truth, we lose our people in agencies large & small. Each one leaves a scar we carry. For those of us privileged to lead, let us grieve with our people, embrace & support while reminding them America depends on them. They Matter. We will hold the watch

Kudos @EBpolicing highlighting wellness programs. Collectively policing executives must work to strengthen our officer’s resilience to the daily stress. Their wellness transcends into lasting careers and community safety.
