@Amelia171786 Very happy birthday @amelia. Hope I reach 100 too. I’m 70 and I still have lots to do! And I love the way you’ve iced your cake.

I turned 100 today 🎂 My family is gone… so I made myself a little cake. It’s quiet… but I’m still here, still breathing, still hoping for a little kindness. ❤️ If you see this, could you say “Happy Birthday” to me?

@WDIAfghanistan Not UN. Left-wing hand-wringers generally couldn’t give a toss about women in Afghanistan and Iran.

Copies of ‘Past and Present’, my book of short stories, some historical and some contemporary, landed on my doorstep yesterday. Exciting! Thank you @Gilljames and Bridge House Publishing. #bookstagram #bibliophile #booklover And yes, it’s available on Amazon.

@HDunn_Writer You are not obliged to eat meat! When people say that sort of thing to me, I reply that I just don’t like it. Nobody can argue with that!

Weigh in, please: Someone at work brought in beef empanadas. Offered me one. I declined. She asked why. I said I don't eat meat. And she asked me why I don't eat meat. I feel like this isn't her business lol.

@AlanBreenAuthor You’re a writer AND an author. You can interchange the words. You know not to use reps? Right?

I’m a new writer. Or author. Honestly, I’m still not sure what the difference is—but I’ve got caffeine, self-doubt, and a document called “FINALfinal_REALLYfinal.doc,” so I think I qualify.

If you had to choose one thing that would make you interested in reading a book, what would it be? A) The author B) The cover C) The blurb D) An exciting movie-style trailer E) Something else, please explain Also, what are the top three factors in order?

@EveKoguce Writing is the rewarding part. Seeking a publisher requires courage, commitment and endurance. People who have temperament to hide themselves away and write find promoting their work sheer Hell.

A remark from a 'friend': "If it's so hard to write, publish and promote books, why don't you just stop?" What would you reply? #WritingCommunity

@KT_Carlisle Who says? This side of the pond, 2 spaces is what is taught. In a word processing exam, you will lose one mark for using one. Lose three marks, and you fail the exam.

Were you taught to use double spaces after punctuation? I was never taught this, but I see other writers do this a lot. Editing pro tip: You only need one space after punctuation—not two. 😉

@CapelLofft I’m shocked to read this!!! ‘Suffer the children unto me’ etc. In our church (traditional Church of England) you, would all be welcome. We have several noisy pre-schoolers in services. Ask your curate what activities your church could make available for children.

@gibbsy66 @IndiaWilloughby Seems that whilst some people get wiser with age, those who lack curiosity about the world & compassion for others just get more and more awful.

🧵I once caught a train in a hurry leaving my terminally ill dad on the platform. I was distressed. An elderly woman complained to the guard that I was crying in a carriage designated ‘quiet’ and she wanted me removed. My husband explained to her but she was adamant. I never saw
