I'm pretty positive on Parker overall but she does seem to have a weakness for slopulism for who she thinks is her base. Luckily this is a relatively small amount of money in the grand scheme of things but I would rather none of my tax dollars went to PAYING PARKING TICKETS

@KevinMLevy This is directly subsidizing illegal behavior lol. This should be national news, I am surprised Fox News hasn't picked this up. "Philadelphia Mayor wants to subsidize illegal parking" is a wild headline.

The city announced yesterday that they’re going to start trying to pay people’s parking tickets for parking justice or something. So, the people who get squeezed here are people who don’t own cars, while people do negligently own cars get city subsidized illegal parking. Cool.

@mateosfo Someone without children who thinks no one else has kids (trying lugging football or hockey equipment to games all around the area), and we all live only 2 miles from work and the temperature is always sunny and 75F. Oh, and we don't need groceries or other household items.

On average cars are idle 98% of the time and even when used only transport one person at a time -- but at a cost 50 times greater than a Citibike, usually slower, and far deadlier. This is what the car cult calls "freedom."

@MenaB719 @vivian39_ Not to mention your argument makes no sense. No one is arguing that disabled ppl shouldn’t have a car if needed but there are so many options for the disabled to move around a city, such as mobility devices, med. transit, uber and more.

@RPhilly99 @vivian39_ I was not talking about the entire disabled community. I was trying to raise awareness that people with certain disabilities can’t just walk or bike.

every parking lot in a city center is just a housing crisis lying flat on the ground in the sun waiting for someone to build on it. we don't have a land shortage we have an asphalt addiction

@RPhilly99 @vivian39_ I had a family member that could only leave their house in a wheelchair van. It’s a valid concern that people want to make life harder for physically disabled people.

@SlopHq I love when drivers who park on corners, double park and block cross walks all of a sudden care about emergency vehicles and the disabled.

"but what about emergency vehicles" is the last refuge of the anti-bike-lane argument and it's wrong every single time. fire trucks can navigate bike lanes. ambulances can navigate bike lanes. you know what actually blocks emergency vehicles? your double-parked f-150

@Streetfilms Drivers will complain about daylighting but also complain that people wear black at night in a city.

@RPhilly99 @JawnDoe__ @JohnnyWalsh__ @DPearsonPHL Most disabled people want to SHARE the city with others, not displace everyone who has a vehicle or needs things to be delivered. Closing a street & calling it "open" is the opposite of that.

Center City District has released their report on Open Streets, it is a remarkable success. 27% increase in pedestrian activity 62% increase in in-store traffic 38% sales growth These are remarkable numbers, the city should make Open Streets a regularly scheduled event.

@Scorpgal2024 @JawnDoe__ @JohnnyWalsh__ @DPearsonPHL You don’t speak for all seniors, disabled and low income ppl. I’m disabled and low income and don’t rely on getting essentials delivered, and prefer open streets. One of my biggest obstacles are vehicles.

@DPearsonPHL It came down my third world country side street in Grays Ferry the other day. They also don’t like my wheelchair. We get into confusing standoffs. Still feel safer than Philly drivers

IMO, Philadelphia is probably the most challenging city Waymo is trying to operate in. Narrow streets, double-parking, weather, aggressive motorists, pretty much every imaginable challenge exists here.
