@RutgersAltRoute A5 - Earlier I had not appreciated howassessment in the form of quizzes might contribute to behavior in the class. I was using mainly assignment-based assessment. Now I understand that quiz-type assessment can hold students accountable for their progress #teachered #growthmindset

This morning's 5th and final Q is on assessment #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset “You can enhance or destroy students’ desire to succeed in school more quickly and permanently through your use of assessment than with any other tool you have at your disposal.” – Dr. Rick Stiggins

@RutgersAltRoute A5: I feel there is room for improvement in the area of assessment. For me, I try to use practices that show how important these assessments are while not putting pressure on success. I want my students to learn and grow from them. #TeacherED #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A5 - At the moment I am focusing on developing quiz-type assessments to help students acquire the French vocabulary. Using a series of short (weekly) assessments and a quiz tracker so students can track their progress, to encourage accountability. #teachered #growthmindset

Feedback is a compass for improvement and not all feedback is created equally. For Q4 share your content area and consider your best practices and those you would like to try #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A4 - Feedback needs to be constructive and directly related to the learning objective for that lesson, to encourage students to focus constantly on the learning objective for that lesson. #teachered #growthmindset

@JayZonday @RutgersAltRoute I do like the idea of offering constructive feedback. I have only 32 minute classes so every conversation or feedback offered needs to be related to the learning objective and offer constructive feedback related to it.

@RutgersAltRoute Constructive feedback: "You made a mistake in your calculation, but I appreciate your effort. Let's go through the steps together to see where the error occurred." (2/2) #GrowthMindset #TeacherEd

@AnnaDrapczynski @SocciJoseph @RutgersAltRoute I really like this idea, especially as in French part of the grade is for 'participation'. So grading assignments for 'completeness' could be a tangible way of contributing to the grade.

@SocciJoseph @RutgersAltRoute Yes! This is extremely important. All my worksheets and homework assignments are not graded for correctness, but rather completeness. I give students full credit if they show me they tried and together in class we go through all responses. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A3 I need to frame the way I present work and assignments as 'I know this will be a stretch for you but I know you can do this, so that's why I am setting the work at this level'.

Framing, or how teachers introduce new concepts and tasks to students, is the focus of Q3. Framing can steer students to a fixed or growth mindset. It helps students feel free to be a work in progress as they learn. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute With mindset-conscious framing, I need to consider fine-tuning my messaging in such a way as to promote a growth mindset. This can include paying careful attention to how I frame questions. #teachered #growthmindset

@RutgersAltRoute A3: To promote a growth mindset, teachers can address climate, input, responsibility and feedback through what they intimate to students through their words, thoughts, and actions. If you see your students as ‘late bloomers’, your positive expectations c #teachered #growthmindset

@RutgersAltRoute A2 - In student learning and development, mindsets can make the difference between plateauing early (even high achievers who may fail to learn to deal with failure/not develop resistance) or not achieving one’s full potential. #teachered #growthmindset

Teachers have the power to influence the mindset of students. As you answer #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset Question 1, consider your own experience, readings, and what Carol Dweck refers to as the power of “yet” (youtu.be/hiiEeMN7vbQ?si…)

@MsMalinowsky Sorry but I can't find the question. Also Twitter locked me out at precisely 10am when I was trying to figure out what to do and I've had to spend time reactivating my account.

@RutgersAltRoute School districts and administrators should continue to support their teachers as they continue to learn and allow them to attend and present at conferences, and turn-key what they learned to others. Being in a teacher-leadership role and/or coaching is a great way to help others!
