As RAIB investigates Bedford, two other accidents spring to mind. A freight rear-end collision at Doncaster 5/7/22 caused by a SPAD through driver fatigue. A passenger near-miss at South Wingfield 26/10/22 caused by a signal incorrectly wired by technician under time pressure.

Operator has replied to me this evening. It has ignored the questions regarding specific safety issues and instead made a vague "The safety of customers is our priority" statement, insisting its trains meet all the required safety standards. Staff don't agree.

395027 has been out of passenger service since January '25. 2nd pic is a clue as to why. Testing began 2 weeks ago.

@MRyanLynch @PolitlcsUK @grok if the train had of carried on the fast lane the only available station would be stevenage, and hour away from peterbourgh. If he hadnt of swapped the train to the slow line that would have been one very horrific hour

@DrMatthijs @KingBobIIV @PolitlcsUK CCTV images don't show in an active driver's cab until the train has stopped. He would have spoken to whoever operated the alarm and made a decision from there.

@KingBobIIV @PolitlcsUK When the passenger alarm was pulled in a carriage the CCTV images from that carriage would appear immediately on the driver's screen so he would have seen the event unfolding.

Roy Larner came to mind when I heard about the #Huntingdon attack. A train attack is your worst nightmare, Roy fought back in a restaurant where you can pick up and swing tables/chairs etc. Everything on a train is bolted down - you have nothing

@melindiscott @MarcherReborn @iancharris Only once the train had stopped. They almost certainly would have had a call from the train manager (or a passenger via the alarm system) and made a decision based on that.

@armvalk250v12 @Boris417197813 @LNRailway I've worked at two different tocs and over the last 22 years have had plenty of medicals. They always use the Ishihara test, so if you can pass that you'll be fine.

@Tom_Atkins96 @RPMarks If I remember correctly, it was not long after 450s were fitted with AWS mark 4 and there were a few teething troubles.

@Red_ForDanger @RPMarks Mad you have to do that with no AWS!! Did it not say operational when you key’d on? Assume it did haha. Love these insights.

Railway hive mind: no AWS horn or bell at a *green* aspect. Right side or wrong side failure?

@Champs707007 The AC motor upgrade made them significantly better to drive, although I'm sure a few would disagree 🙃

So, what’s so different about our 455’s here 🧐? Hint: I didn’t drive them while in this form.
