Mostly loafing about, occasionally drives speedy trains

Operator has replied to me this evening. It has ignored the questions regarding specific safety issues and instead made a vague "The safety of customers is our priority" statement, insisting its trains meet all the required safety standards. Staff don't agree.
Chime Whistle Publishing@ChimeWhistle

Three very worried staff from one operator have DM me (NO NAMES ever published) to say that some of their trains are “as a matter of routine” in passenger service with safety or emergency components isolated or broken.

395027 has been out of passenger service since January '25. 2nd pic is a clue as to why. Testing began 2 weeks ago.

@Molzfitz06 @MRyanLynch @PolitlcsUK @grok Peterborough to Stevenage is 27 mins. But yes, speaking to the signaller and asking to be put on the slow line was absolutely the right thing to do.

@MRyanLynch @PolitlcsUK @grok if the train had of carried on the fast lane the only available station would be stevenage, and hour away from peterbourgh. If he hadnt of swapped the train to the slow line that would have been one very horrific hour

@DrMatthijs @KingBobIIV @PolitlcsUK CCTV images don't show in an active driver's cab until the train has stopped. He would have spoken to whoever operated the alarm and made a decision from there.

@KingBobIIV @PolitlcsUK When the passenger alarm was pulled in a carriage the CCTV images from that carriage would appear immediately on the driver's screen so he would have seen the event unfolding.

Roy Larner came to mind when I heard about the #Huntingdon attack. A train attack is your worst nightmare, Roy fought back in a restaurant where you can pick up and swing tables/chairs etc. Everything on a train is bolted down - you have nothing
The Secret History of Gold - out May 5@DominicFrisby

Roy Larner, the Lion of London Bridge, is the man who, when being attacked by armed Jihadi terrorists fought back with the immortal battle cry, "F8ck you, I'm Millwall." I wrote the Ballad of Roy Larner about him. Then he showed up to one of my gigs. Here's what happened ... @roylarner41

@melindiscott @MarcherReborn @iancharris Only once the train had stopped. They almost certainly would have had a call from the train manager (or a passenger via the alarm system) and made a decision based on that.

@armvalk250v12 @Boris417197813 @LNRailway I've worked at two different tocs and over the last 22 years have had plenty of medicals. They always use the Ishihara test, so if you can pass that you'll be fine.

@MaryOToole10 @MrTimDunn @networkrail There’s seven based at Effingham I think. Plus others at other depots. Four of the Effingham ones were named in the mid 2010s. The pink one was our favourite.

I can now reveal… Britain: YOU have NAMED a TRAIN! The public has voted an extraordinary name for one of @networkrail's leaf-busting units. Britney Clears? No. Leaf-Fall Weapon? NO! It’s…

Lads and lasses of the railway. Do any of you enjoy doing 50 passing reds under ESW? It just feels so alien! Also props to Wigan wallgate signalman for handling my call in good humour, even though it’s on a different line and in his words “we’re not wired driver

@Tom_Atkins96 @RPMarks If I remember correctly, it was not long after 450s were fitted with AWS mark 4 and there were a few teething troubles.

@Red_ForDanger @RPMarks Mad you have to do that with no AWS!! Did it not say operational when you key’d on? Assume it did haha. Love these insights.

@Champs707007 The AC motor upgrade made them significantly better to drive, although I'm sure a few would disagree 🙃
