@upstatefederlst Trumpism has exposed the right as the whiniest pussies in American history. the constant victimhood is exhausting. imagine the lack of character it takes to openly go into every election claiming "we win or it's stolen", like 5 year old girls

Today, on Good Friday, we mark a day of sacrifice. Some New Yorkers will abstain from eating; others will spend hours without speaking. Faith, the Bible tells us, is belief in the things unseen. That belief is what will guide so many of our neighbors in solemn reflection and reverence. I wish all those observing Good Friday a blessed day of peace.

Look, if the vast majority of immigration into the US came from NW Europe and they voted Republican, the Democrats would be staunchly anti-immigration. That's just obvious at this point. Immigration just means third world welfare votes

If you don't like birthright citizenship...work on a constitutional amendment. If you are too lazy to do that, and do the hard work convincing the majority of Americans you are right...well, then you've answered your own question if that is what Americans want or not.

And part of the issue with this is that 20 years ago, when both sides more or less agreed that America was a fundamentally good place, you could have these sorts of debates Today, w/ Dems believing America is & has always been fundamentally evil, we’re too far apart for debate

Probably the biggest issue with RINOs is that they are addicted to the performance of process. None of this is real to them, it's a broadway play featured on CSPAN. To the RINO, American politics is about the "robust debate" and the sparring of ideas and interpretation. They are obsessed with the banality of navigating "a century+ of statutory and legal precedent" or whatever. But you dare rip the vaneer of their sacred play on the hallowed television and show the real world consequences and they shreek like a vampire exposed to the sun. The proof may be demonstrable, it may be damming, it may even put our entire nation (whatever that means anymore) at risk, but it is irrelevent to them. What matters most is the process. Lin lin born in Los Angeles and raised in Beijing could come over and seduce an American senator to steal state secrets and the first question people like Jonah would ask is not "how did this happen" nor "how do we stop it" but it is "what does the process say". Then the play begins, the next 6 months are filled with "robust debate" and trying to figure out what the founders would do (the founders would have her hanged), meanwhile Senator Hickenlooper just ordered 2 martinis from the bartender because he wants to hear more about Chi Shi who was born in Seattle.

@BlueBoxDave I think the children of undocumented immigrants in the United States certainly have more “skin in the game” than billionaires do.

Does birthright citizenship give the kids of illegal immigrants skin in the game as Americans?

If you like everything written in the Constitution, then you're likely reading it with your political glasses on. I love the Constitution, but there's a lot about it I'd love to change. But far more important than any pet preference is adhering to the rule of law.

FWIW I fall into the seemingly small camp that thinks that birthright citizenship is probably required by the text of the 14A while also being a horrible policy if it extends to the children of illegal immigrants or people on vacation.

As an immigrant myself, today's arguments on birthright citizenship are deeply personal to me. The 14th Amendment is clear: the children of immigrants are guaranteed US citizenship. Despite President Trump's wishes, he cannot rewrite the Constitution.
