11/ This cluster of DPRK IT worker activity is less sophisticated compared to groups like AppleJeus and TraderTraitor, which operate far more efficiently and present the greatest risks to the industry. I previously estimated DPRK IT workers generate multiple seven figures per month in revenue, and the data here supports that. Unpopular opinion: threat actors are leaving an opportunity on the table by not targeting low-tier DPRK groups. The risk of repercussions is low, competition is minimal, and the targets are arguably deserving. I plan to continue building out investigation.io with future findings. 1/ Recently an unnamed source shared data exfiltrated from an internal North Korean payment server containing 390 accounts, chat logs, crypto transactions. I spent long hours going through all of it, none of which has ever been publicly released. It revealed an intricate ~$1M/month scheme of fraudulent identities, forged legal documents, and crypto-to-fiat conversion. Enjoy the findings!

Post @EthCC takeaways & highlights & notes & observations! 1) Cannes is THE BEST city for conferences! We finally cracked the code for a good conference city: super walkable (<10mins), safe, tons of great cafes & restaurants, optimized for side events & dinners. And I’m convinced that EthCC is the best crypto conference, largely because of its location. DeFi is finally mature enough for institutions. But I believe many more of these types of conversations happened at DAS NYC than at EthCC Cannes. AI agents are definitely not taking over the French Riviera; they are present, mainly, and security companies are heavily implementing AI. Drift hack made a shocking appearance in Cannes; people grew quiet and stayed up all night as the news unfolded in real time. EF is run by a ton of Gen Zs, which has a positive impact on Ethereum ethos, alignment, project highlights, and new ideas! Kudos to @binji_x @lou3ee @sodofi_ who are doing stellar work! Tons of people are looking for their next gig, trying to understand where the crypto ecosystem is heading now that the institutions have entered the room. The path is unknown, but you are not alone on this boat. BDs got much less aggressive! Good thing!!!! The conference was much quieter, but the side events were more concentrated. Buying a single-day ticket is likely the way to go for next time! I believe that DeFi Day attracted a large crowd to the main venue, which could be a strong inspiration for hosting more major events at the EthCC venue next year. Tons of OGs still around & building, some of them are pivoting to crypto x AI or fully AI. Tons of newcomers who entered crypto 1-2 years ago! Lots of female communities are popping up, and they are doing a great job of uniting the community, providing safe spaces for women in crypto, and attracting even more women to the space! Congrats @neflorious @camski for @babesnetxyz community! Huge congrats to @nadia_iv from @ambire for launching @thesolsisclub 🫶 The TikTokification of crypto is happening, and many people are filming a day in my life at conferences, which will likely bring in some newcomers, attract more younger crowds entering crypto space. Builder's Night is still the most popular side event with the longest queue! The cutest swag and top-notch production! Congrats @0xAYoo @dongleehan @francescoswiss for amazing event! The EthCC venue seemed bigger than the number of attendees. I personally did not attend a single talk at the venue, but the hallways felt gradually emptier each day. People spread out across side events and meetings in the restaurants around the city! Tons of great side events tho! See you in Cannes next year in April!🇫🇷🥖

My takeaways from @EthCC in Cannes → Cannes is probably a top 5 city in the world during march/april (and not 5th) → AI is at the center of every discussions and will speed up the development of use cases and applications. → every first wednesday of the month in France, there's an alarm that felt like a nuclear attack. cc @tkstanczak → Vitalik's speech about security x AI is a must-watch → a lot of researchers are working on complex topics and sharing all their best ideas. Ethereum and the ZK ecosystem come out stronger every time there's an event → some talk that open your mind like @albicodes → financial institutions are more and more interested in what a blockchain can offer, whether it's RWA, stablecoins, DATs… cc @overdrev → less short term narrative, more suits and use cases and let's not forget… privacy… regulation… privacy… regulation i'm leaving with plenty of good ideas that will come to life in the next few weeks 🫡

My takeaways from @EthCC in Cannes this week. - probably the best place on the planet for a conference. Seriously. Immaculate weather and vibes and everything within a 10min walk. - very well organised main event, 9 years of running it shows - way smaller and less side events than last year, but most events well attended with much higher quality attendees. missing the epicness of things like the Defi mansion event last year. Shoutout to @lo_tech rooftop brunch, one of my favourites. - 90% of other events had the worst food I’ve ever seen. What’s up with that? - bottled water incredibly hard to get hold of. What’s up with that? - couldn’t move for AI chat. Was everywhere and half the talks were focused on it. Unsurprising - couldn’t move for British people. Was an invasion. - heard the term ETHCantonConference said a lot. Say what you want about them they know how to show up and get mindshare, best tasting coffee in town too. - most wanted to avoid talk of macro, lots of talk of runway concerns for projects though. - pretty average merch game on the whole, bear-market things. - few more shirts and jackets and few less hoodies but still felt ‘crypto’ - everyone is now a vlogger, content matters. - EF team showed up everywhere. Good. See you next year for 10th anniversary 🫡

appreciation for how well-run @ethcc is: ⤷ self-serve ticket kiosks (no lines) ⤷ childcare (wow) ⤷ coat and luggage checks ⤷ zero wifi issues ⤷ quick security in venue and also very safe around town! ⤷ side event venues all <6 minutes walking distance ⤷ talks ran on-time, didn't see any AV issues ⤷ stellar weather (i assume they ordered this in advance) the industry vibes could literally be rock bottom but ethcc in cannes would still be immaculate because of location and how well this thing is run kudos @jdetychey & @bettina_boon
