@Dachsjaeger Devs still aren't collecting and including PSO caches.
English

@Sebasti66855537 @Dachsjaeger I thought Nanite doesn't use mesh shaders, but the only in-depth writeup of it I know is from 2022. Also PSO caching improvements are nice but game devs aren't usually doing it at all from what I can see.
English

@Dachsjaeger These are definitely some nice improvements. One can only hope that developers actually incorporate them in their projects. The addition of tier 2 VRS is welcome, but I'm disappointed to see that mesh shaders & sampler feedback are still not officially supported by UE5.2.

Game programmers always think they're smarter than everyone else, yet their creations are the most broken abominations of software I've ever worked on or used. And one recent release is a great example.

std::filesystem throws exceptions with no way to disable them? Does the C++ committee know that games disable RTTI and exceptions?

This thread blew up, and defending the obvious technical qualities of Doom Eternal is giving me the easiest owns in years. Apparently, many gamers butthurt that idTech7 still humiliates almost everything else; claiming it's so fast mostly because it's simple/dumb/small WTF.

@antdavis1986 Also: "maps not complex" ROFL. Each Mission is a huge contiguous map. No closed doors or "squeeze through narrow passage" tricks. The SIGGRAPH deck has lots of detail on traversal. This game has 100% smooth traversal because those people can code, not because it's simple/small.

For open-world with lots of vegetation, pay attention to leaves with masked/transparent materials as raytracing is more costly with such materials. Optimize it by tweaking the topology to make polygons fitting the mask as much as possible

@ethanh762287 @CapFrameX It runs on RT cores and uses DirectX ray tracing here.
English

@CapFrameX Interested to know how it runs at all, given its using Nvidias new rtxdi / restir which is for cuda? Correct me if I'm mistaken
English

@Kevboard_Arts @CapFrameX There's a miscommunication here, since the 7900 XTX is way faster than the 3060 Ti in RT
English

@ChasersFrame lol what. V-Cache FPS boost doesn't come at a huge latency penalty like frame gen (which I find useful outside of fast twitch games).

@ayxerious Good, an OpenGL game is a deciding factor in my next GPU purchase

@FPSthetics Some of those games like the Thiefs and System Shock 1 don't have RPG elements, which are usually said to be a requirement for this "genre." Most agree Dishonored is pretty weak with this criteria.

@That_NerdVFX @microcenter According to Minecraft RTX system requirements, ray tracing does work on RX 6000 series.
