8 months for a new patient appointment at Brown. We were dumb enough to get an HMO, so even though my husband can write an order for a mammogram, I still have to go through an NP for basic care. I’m one annoyance away from opening a direct-pay clinic with primary care, surgery, imaging, etc

@AshleyKalus Good luck with imaging. The state controls mri licenses tighter than Liquor licenses. I looked into this myself with a few doctor buddies.

Bruen is a fundamentally simple and easy to understand test. Certainly more straightforward than the convoluted mess First Amendment jurisprudence has become. The people insisting it's too complicated are generally the same people that want every gun law upheld.

Congress is not serious. We are voting on a stock trading ban for members of Congress… BUT Republicans added voter-ID in the legislation. Not to get Dems to vote for voter-ID, but to get them to vote against the stock trading ban, so they can use it in the Nov. election.

@Rich4Ri Much has changed in 6 years in terms of the legal playing field regarding gun ownership in the USA. Your assumption is that I am ideological about it. I am not.

This is why the State-House-to-Judiciary pipeline is so bad for RI: GoLocalProv has a story documenting that the judge who will decide whether former Speaker Shekarchi can jump to RI's Supreme Court without waiting a year has attended recent partisan political events with the former Speaker. Check out this only-in-Rhode-Island moment: A former RI Senate President, acting as the top Superior Court justice, has named a former Lieutenant Governor, acting as a Superior Court justice, to handle the case of a former RI Speaker who wants to be named to the RI Supreme Court. Without questioning the qualifications and temperament of any of these people to be judges in RI, it is at minimum a bad look and, at worst, a serious conflict of interest to have people who are so closely aligned politically and with a shared background of the RI State House to be deciding each other's fate. This is why Rhode Island governors need to make more diverse choices when selecting new judges. The RI State House is very well represented at every level of our Judicial system. It is time to bring some balance back by nominating judges from the ranks of very well-qualified lawyers who do not work in RI government.
