Why are leftists so allergic to supply and demand? Why do they get so upset about this principle? It is essentially bc they want to eat their cake and have it too. You can already opt out of buying, selling, working certain jobs, owning businesses, or participating in markets. What you can’t opt out of is respecting other people’s rights by taking their labor or property through force. That’s the difference. Capitalism imposes one rule: don’t steal. Its alternatives require imposing who produces, who pays, who gets redistributed wealth, and whose rights become negotiable for the “collective.”
