@ClownWorld "Whatever the market will bear." Value is entirely subjective. Everything is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Just because you think the price is ridiculous, doesn't me other people agree with you. By the way, I happen to agree with you. I wouldn't pay it.

A woman at the stone yard completely shocked because they’re charging $175 for a small irregular boulder and $229 for a medium one. She’s walking around zooming in on the price tags going ‘do people actually pay $175 for a fucking rock?’ and ‘it gets better… these ones are $229’ while losing her mind over it. Plain rocks on pallets. Nothing special. She even says they’re not fucking gold, it’s just a rock.

I GUARANTEE if they would have cast Sydney Sweeney as Helen of Troy and Chris Pratt as Achilles, that movie would have made them 100x more money.

@Tribeless123 @liam_out_loud Well put, although I wish you had broken your response into smaller paragraphs, for ease of reading. Another problem is that people don't want to admit that something they thought would "fix" a problem, just made it worse or created new bigger problems.

Liam's "metaphysical error" sets up a false choice: either play innocent victim (blaming a prime mover) or accept full complicity in the loop and be "free." This is overstated. You can diagnose real high-leverage problems (bad incentives, regulatory capture, concentrated power) without claiming they're the sole unmoved mover or absolving yourself of responsibility. Effective reformers do exactly that. The ecosystem analogy is useful but ignores that not all nodes are equal—some causes propagate more than others. Pretending everything is an undifferentiated loop risks fatalism: why target anything if "it's all connected"?Personal responsibility works great at the individual level. At scale, coordination problems, institutions, and path dependence make it harder. Identifying fixable levers isn't always cope—it's how progress (ending slavery, market reforms, etc.) actually happened. The framework has truth about scapegoating, but weaponized it becomes its own excuse for inaction. You can analyze loops, find strong arrows inside them, reject purity, and still push for better outcomes. Wisdom > false binary

Almost everyone who discusses politics shares one metaphysical error, and it is the error that keeps them powerless. You can be innocent or you can be free. You cannot be both.

Why are leftists so allergic to supply and demand? Why do they get so upset about this principle? It is essentially bc they want to eat their cake and have it too. They want to pretend that rent control won't diminish the supply of housing, they want to pretend that minimum wages don't cause unemployment, but mostly bc it's a constant reminder that the labor theory of value is bunk. That value is not determined by labor hours, but by the voluntary consent of those who are willing to trade with you.

@jonbrooks While I do mostly agree with you, I do think there are a few things that I would really suggest getting an expert. About a decade ago I got a quote of $800 from a plumber to replace my water main shutoff valve. I did it myself with $50 in parts. Still works great.

Everyone keeps saying “go into the trades.” I get it — but here’s my real experience: Called a local company to fix an icemaker on a 2007 fridge that still runs great. Tech shows up. Takes a picture. Can’t fix it. Charges $99 just for showing up. Then quotes me $1,300 to replace the icemaker. So I do what everyone can do now: I ChatGPT the model number. In 2 seconds: • Exact replacement part • Direct phone number • Cost: $300 Installation? 2 screws. 10 minutes. I’ll do it myself. Same thing happened with my pool heater: Repair guy quoted $2,000. I bought the part directly and fixed it myself for under $200. The problem isn’t the trades. It’s that information asymmetry is gone — and some businesses haven’t realized it yet.

This is the kind of argument that only works by reducing tyranny to a single statistic while ignoring literally everything that defines a totalitarian regime. Under Stalin you could be imprisoned, executed, starved, disappeared, tortured, or sent to labor camps for political dissent, wrong associations, speech, religion, property ownership, or simply being inconvenient to the state. The economy, media, education, movement, and expression were all centrally controlled through terror. Even if a prison statistic were true, it wouldn’t erase mass purges, engineered famines, secret police, forced collectivization, show trials, censorship, and millions of deaths. “America has prisoners therefore Stalin was less tyrannical” is historical illiteracy dressed up as edgy contrarianism.

The Soviet Union under Stalin was FAR LESS tyrannical than the US regime today. You've just become so brainwashed that you lack the language to comprehend this. In America, there's now more people in prison per capita, than there were in gulags under Stalin.

This is outrageous.. Not a single person on my flight is masked up while we’re in the middle of a double pandemic (Covid + Hantavirus). I politely informed the flight attendant that this is a super spreader event. She just shrugged and walked away. I've already filed a formal complaint with the FAA and CDC. This is reckless and cannot stand. Masks save lives, the science is settled on that.

@RockChartrand @aspiringpeasant We are a victim of our own success. Technological progress has separated people from the horrors of survival, that they think those horrors don't exist. One really bad day will quickly lead to the death of all those luxury beliefs and the people who hold them.

“Opting out” of capitalism just means opting out of voluntary trade and property rights while still expecting access to what others produce. You can already opt out of buying, selling, working certain jobs, owning businesses, or participating in markets. What you can’t opt out of is respecting other people’s rights by taking their labor or property through force. That’s the difference. Capitalism imposes one rule: don’t steal. Its alternatives require imposing who produces, who pays, who gets redistributed wealth, and whose rights become negotiable for the “collective.”

My hands are shaking writing this. A small Japanese flag, the size of a paperback book, tied to the bumper of a city bus on a Japanese national holiday in 2026. And online, someone is calling it "discriminatory." A flag. A bus. A national holiday. In Japan. In Paris, the tricolor covers every boulevard on July 14. Nobody calls it discriminatory. In Texas, every porch flies the Stars and Stripes on July 4. Nobody calls it discriminatory. In London, the Union Jack drapes Buckingham Palace for the King. Nobody calls it discriminatory. Only here. Only our flag. Only on our own holidays, on our own buses, on our own quiet streets. I keep asking how we got here. I do not have an answer. That flag is not too loud. The shame trying to silence it is.

Okay leftists, you don't like Trump. I get that. But if you take back the House and the Senate, what will you do differently? For instance, President Trump has completely solved illegal immigration at this point. He has shut down the border. How will you improve upon that? Donald Trump has American energy production cranking on all cylinders. How will you improve upon that? As promised, manufacturing is coming back to America and exploding through the roof. How will you improve upon that? How will you reduce inflation without raising interest rates? Here's the thing. Your entire platform is hating Trump but you have no actual solutions that are better than what he's doing. Time for you to give us your platform or shut the hell up.
