I am honored to be speaking at the Planetary Annual Meeting #PHAM at the #Pathfinder Session today, this Thursday, October 9 (11:00–12:30 CEST) on “Advancing Solutions for Planetary Health.” I’ll share lessons from @aphrc’s work exploring how climate-related policies can promote health and well-being in Kenya while tackling the climate crisis — a step toward a healthy, net-zero, and equitable future. Let’s keep advancing research, policy, and action for people and the planet.  #PlanetaryHealth #ClimateAction #Visibilize4ClimateAction #APHRCResearch  #PathfinderInitiative  Pathfinder Initiative, led by @LSHTM_Planet @LSHTM is funded by @wellcometrust

During our work in #Korogocho slums, a teenage boy shared: “We get most of our food from #Dandora dumpsite. Sometimes leftovers from restaurants are wrapped & safe, but often we just take anything edible — even spoiled.” This is heartbreaking. 💔

Imagine being 12 years old and responsible for putting food on the table, caring for siblings, and navigating life alone. This is the daily reality of child-led households. Yet, their struggles remain unseen, their voices unheard. It’s time we listen. 💔 #ChildLedHouseholds

According to the latest Kenya County Nutrition Indicators, women are disproportionately affected by obesity compared to men, with Kirinyaga County recording the highest rates of overweight and obese women. This raises critical questions: Why is this happening? What does it mean for the rise of non-communicable diseases? Our food systems have long contributed to poor health outcomes, with #malnutrition in all its forms reaching levels we cannot ignore. Tomorrow, Friday 5/9/2025 at 6:00 PM, join two seasoned food systems experts, Alice Ritho and Eric Kirimi, for an X spaces conversation on how food, climate, and health are deeply connected—and what this means for Kenya’s future. Set reminder here: x.com/i/spaces/1mnGe… #FoodJustice #ClimateAction #RightToFood @aphrc

Food, climate, and health are not separate issues—they are deeply interconnected. When climate shocks hit, food systems suffer. When food systems fail, health deteriorates. And when health declines, communities lose resilience. In Kenya today: ✔Drought and floods are disrupting food production. ✔ Rising food prices are straining household nutrition. ✔ Climate change is accelerating diet-related diseases. This Friday, we’re hosting an X Space conversation on “How Food, Climate & Health Connect”. It’s a chance to explore: * Why these issues matter for Kenya’s future. * What solutions can deliver food justice and climate resilience. * How YOU—as a policymaker, innovator, health or agri-professional—can play a role. 📅 This Friday- 5/9/2025 | 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM (EAT) 🔗 x.com/i/spaces/1mnGe… Join us to learn, share, and shape the conversation on Kenya’s path to healthy people, a healthy planet, and a fair food system. #FoodJustice #FoodClimateHealth #ClimateAction #RightToFood @aphrc
