Time dilation is separating the groups by hundreds of years. Apparently the moved on. So he's "cucked" :/

They almost had it. A great idea for a game, a compelling gameplay loop, great music, great gameplay feel & they threw it all away with that story. What a goddamn shame man

The first thing to take from this is that, like Mixtape, there is a large disconnect between what critics want to push vs what the average audience wants. Granted, the gameplay of Saros looked fun, so it’s infinitely better than Mixtape in that regard. The second is that target audiences do indeed still exist and you need to be aware of what the audience prefers when making a game, which is a product at the end of the day. Saros’s plot could work as a low budget sci-fi adventure game with simple puzzles and the like, combined with some atmospheric storytelling to go along with it. It wouldn’t be my jam at all, but I know people who like games like that would be all in on that sort of plot due to the cosmic horror elements and mystery. Hell, it’d probably be a memorable side quest in something like Mass Effect. For an action heavy Rogue-like though? The typical audience for those games isn’t going to go for a concept where you fight tooth and nail to complete a stage, die repeatedly, and grind over and over for progress just to get hit with “you’re the bad guy and also your wife left you for a woman” ending. There is a lack of catharsis to that which just makes people annoyed. Word of mouth spreads after that, and people who would be interested due to the gameplay might find that so unappealing to the point of not giving it a try. In principle, we can tell whatever stories we want, but you have to be aware of who is going to buy your work and work within those boundaries. You can’t just expect an audience to change their preferences solely for you.

@EFlexMusic @Critical_Scribe Nobody, NOBODY plays Housemarques games for the story. I finished Returnal and couldn't tell what it's story was. Because it's as important as the wrapping paper is to a Christmas gift. Not very

SAROS has THE best art direction of any game I've seen this year, arguably the entire gen. Mix of Giger, Dune, Steampunk, Regal, Futurism, Biochemical, Neoclassical etc, with staggering scale & geometric density makes it a sight to behold. Oft looks like concept art. #SAROS #PS5

Looking up this game, apparently the story is he's an alcoholic emotionally abusive asshole, and his wife left him long ago. She's on a planet where due to time dilation, a whole centuries have has passed and she's moved on with a woman He accepts he's a fuckup and to do better

I've been workshopping this idea. I would love to hear your thoughts: In my opinion, the two of the most definitive "Guy Movies" are Gladiator and Braveheart. Both feature a hero who dies for something he deeply believes in. And whose death ultimately helps destroy or transform the corrupt system he fought against. Wallace's sacrifice inspires Scottish freedom; Maximus restores honor to Rome. There are plenty of modern movies where the hero gets a complete victory and remains alive, but few seem to reach legendary status. Other movies with this Martyr Archetype are 300 and Saving Private Ryan. Is there something within us as men that powerfully responds to this kind of noble sacrifice and legacy? Or am I totally off base here?
