@DanielTroupe2 @Pyeholio @SBakerMD Fresh meat has a 1 to 1 protein to glycogen ratio, not the aged stuff you get at the grocery store, the kind where you kill an animal and eat it. Look it up.

@RobinKylemusic @Pyeholio @SBakerMD Huh? “Fresh meat” has a high carb content, how do you figure? It can contain traces of glycogen from stored animal glucose but it’s a teeny tiny amount.

Can anyone from the nutrition academic community explain why 10s of thousands of people doing carnivore, not eating any fresh fruit or vegetable for months, years and even decades have not developed scurvy? If it was down to eating fruits and vegetables then surely almost all of them would be dead by now!

Keto started failing on weight loss and energy after a year so carnivore was the next logical step, it seemed to work for about 6 months before I started having serious sweats and needing naps after big dinners, then the energy stalled again, I lost half my eyebrows (sign of damaged thyroid) weight plateaued again sleep started feeling less restful and I started waking up in the middle of the night not always to pee but frequently. This was enough for me to reassess and I have fixed almost all those problems and have energy to accomplish what I need to do each day that I never experienced on any low carb diet.

@RobinKylemusic @MNDad71 @SBakerMD Since I care about my health, I should keep an eye out for these concerns - what symptoms did you have, or tests that you took, to determine your thyroid, and metabolism issues?

There’s nothing wrong with either approach, of course it is not practical for most musicians to ignore what their fans want to hear. Dylan is a rare bird and most of his fans know what they are in for and appreciate whatever he brings. He’s a unicorn and I appreciate him for it.

Your position is fine, and inarguable with, if artists' concerts were free of charge or if the artists paid the audience. When I buy a ticket, I'm essentially "employing" him, her or them for the evening. Imagine paying a landscaper to come out and give my property a makeover, but I have no say. It will be done the landscaper's way, not mine. Music is a people-pleasing business. There's always that "art vs. commercialism" friction going on, but if your act has literally zero commercialism, then nobody will show up at your shows because no one will have heard of you. You wouldn't have put out a record. Or, if you were a do-it-yourselfer, no one will have seen your YouTube stuff because it has no appeal. 100% Art with 0% Commercialism doesn't pay the bills. The only way you can keep playing is if you're independently wealthy. Finally, what's "wrong" with giving your fans what they want? Technically, isn't it GOOD when your audience is happy and energized at your shows? Shouldn't you WANT to see that? And if you don't, do like The Beatles did and stop touring from '66 until they broke up. When your interests clash with your audience's interests, then it's probably time to do something else. If you disagree, that's your right. 🙂

I mostly agree with Paul. A similar thing was when I saw Sweet/The Sweet in February 1976, and they didn't do any of their hits. It was all their new album and obscure stuff. If you don't want paying fans to be happy, don't tour. Stay the fuck home and when you're interviewed about it, say, "I don't tour cuz I'm a prick about playing the records that made me famous." I'd respect you more for at least owning it. @batcountry1980, have you seen the McCartney quote?
CONSEQUENCE@consequence

Paul McCartney says fans deserve to hear the songs they paid for, which is why he's never fully embraced Bob Dylan's approach to rearranging classics or playing obscure tracks live. "I've been to see a couple of shows of Bob's, and I couldn't tell what song he was doing. Now that's a bit much, because I know his stuff. I get it if he doesn't want to do 'Mr. Tambourine Man.' Maybe he’s fed up with that, but I would like to hear it. And I've paid." consequence.net/2026/05/paul-m…

@Pyeholio @SBakerMD They have a genetic polymorphism that keeps them out of ketosis, they also consume lots of fresh meat which has a higher carb content. The body can survive all sorts of stuff but thriving should be the goal.

@RobinKylemusic @SBakerMD I agree that challenging the ideas is how science should work, so bring on all potential theories. Good discussion to have civilly.

There are many factors involved, a healthy lifestyle and mindset can cover up a lot of problems for a long time. Dr Bakers lab results look like he is pre diabetic. It’s possible that some people have a physiology that can handle the demand for gluconeogenesis better than others. Also belief is a powerful placebo. There is so much more to learn in this area but there are far more examples of people who eat lots of carbs and are healthy their whole lives like almost every centenarian that ever lived.

@MNDad71 @RobinKylemusic @SBakerMD How many times did I quit smoking, and then fall off the wagon. It wasn't that not smoking "had problems", it was that smoking is addictive. So is sugar and starch. It doesn't help when family and friends are enjoying desserts and fries, etc.

In my experience it’s the destruction of the thyroid which slows metabolism and the constant need for stress hormones to produce the glucose your body needs. Over time the benefits accrued from eliminating foods that were causing digestive stress and the nutrient density of animal foods eventually wane and don’t make up for the destruction of the metabolic rate and hormonal issues.

@RobinKylemusic @SBakerMD IMHO, carb and food addiction, combined with social pressures, are why people fall off, not health issues.
