BREAKING: scientists terrified out of their fucking minds as they concede it's too late to avoid cataclysmic rapid global warming of 1.9-3°C within a decade or two 🧵

If we agree that the Democrats have lost repeated elections because they’re not speaking directly enough to working-class voters’ economic concerns, then why do they keep making the same mistake? trib.al/vSqeaAu

I take (possibly forlorn) hope in the fact that although Trump is a mendacious, malevolent, transparently evil man, and stupid with it, Musk is not. He is highly intelligent and, diametrically opposed to Trump, he has the welfare of the world at heart. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will have to divest their business holdings if they want to join the Trump administration, to avoid violating conflict-of-interest laws. So if Elon takes a job, could he be forced to sell his stock in Tesla? Or could he be forced to sell Twitter?

If Volodymyr Zelensky continues to defy reality by insisting that Ukraine’s army can take back all the land Russia has stolen since 2014, he will drive away backers and further divide Ukrainian society. It is time for a new, honest approach econ.st/4fjyLdQ 👇

@jk_rowling The left hates you. Why do you still identify with that side? It's interesting to me when folks do this, but it's especially interesting when the greatest writer of the last 50 years does. Which aspects draw you in?

You can keep telling yourself this, but you're simply wrong. I'm a left-leaning liberal who's fiercely anti-authoritarian, and if you couldn't deduce that from my work you haven't understood a word of it. I'm not an ideologue. I mistrust ideologies. I've never met an ideologue who wasn't prepared to deny a bit of inconvenient truth to keep their world view intact and I include ideologies with which I find myself in broad sympathy. On the other hand, I am an idealist. I believe in human beings. We are undeniably capable of terrible acts, but the evidence is that we are astoundingly collaborative and mutually supportive, especially when times are hard. My values haven't changed; what's changed is the political landscape. What was once my natural home (a pragmatic centre-left party focused on dealing with economic disparity, championing social liberalism and equal rights) is now dominated by an illiberal, identity-based strain of politics I consider elitist, harmful and out of touch with the day-to-day concerns of regular people, particularly women (and I've still lived more than half of my life as a non-wealthy woman, and some of that time was spent in poverty). There are women with whom I make common cause in the TERF wars I disagree with on other things. Within obvious limits (sucking up to literal Nazis) I don't particularly care about their personal politics. The reality is that there's currently an assault on women's rights unparalleled in my lifetime, and it's coming from both left and right. If ever there was a time for women across the political spectrum to come together, it is now.

@unreMARKLEble Such nonsense about withholding a title and security if he turned out to be too brown. Would that mean a sibling who wasn't brown would get a title and security while he didn't? It doesn't make a particle of sense.

@unreMARKLEble The "nobody asked how *I* feel" moment, whining about life in the palace during a trip to one of the poorest areas in the world. Followed by the blatant lie about the wedding before the wedding, accusing the Archbishop of breaking the law.

I feel like the public is getting set up to accept H back in the RF in his old capacity. Without her. I’m sure it will be expertly done, just the way that Camilla and Fergie came (back) in after it being seemingly impossible. Will you forgive and forget?? I won’t.

My wife nearly died from an ectopic pregnancy. Don't weaponize her pain to try to bully me into voting for the slaughter of mothers and children in Gaza and Lebanon.

@warisshah786 @peterdaou No you guys can totally have a party. Whenever a woman dies from an ectopic pregnancy you take a shot. For every 11yr old carrying incest babies to term you play pin the tail. When the new 7 justice conservative majority gets rid of gay marriage and the ACA sing happy birthday

Vibe from Prague and Berlin among foreign policy types is extreme anxiety over the possibility of a Trump return to the White House. We should be making our adversaries nervous, not our allies.
