President Trump had choice: - Retire the Empire gracefully (stop the wars, close the foreign bases, and bring all the troops home) - Or give the Empire another puff of oxygen. He chose the latter, against the wishes of the American people. But this time Trump has poked a stick at the wrong hornet's nest, and is trapped. With every passing day, the costs escalate, and the American people feel increased economic pain. It's now well past the time to retire the Empire ... before there's nothing left to save. @hughhewitt My big fear is that Trump will do something that will blow up a lot more of their shit, and then then stop and "declare victory" -- with Iran still possessing enriched uranium and still trying to control the strait as a toll booth. And no one should, or will, believe him.

Let's talk about Cuba. Take away the Soviet checks, the Venezuelan oil, the Chinese rescue boats and the Iranian friends. What is actually left? An island with nothing to sell and nobody left to pay the bill. No oil worth seizing. No industry worth taking. No strategic mineral buried under the sugarcane. By every material measure that a normal country is judged on, Cuba leads nowhere. It is a sixty year money sink that bled every patron foolish enough to adopt it, and then outlived them. So you might be asking, why has Trump set his sights on it? Why is Marco Rubio counting the minutes like a man watching the last grains run out of an hourglass he flipped over himself? Why are they even bothering? Not for what's under the ground, for sure. There's nothing under the ground. They're going after what's above it. Because Cuba was never a country to the people who ran it. It was a billboard. The single surviving advertisement that filthy communism could plant itself ninety miles from the most powerful nation on earth and refuse to die. That was the whole product. Not sugar. Not rum. Not nickel. The export *was* the communism. Cuba sold the world a story that communism could outlast America, and for sixty years it kept that story on life support so every campus radical and every jungle guerrilla and every tin pot revolutionary had a poster to point at, while the island was crumbling under the weight of the Castro regime. That propaganda abomination is about to die and I, for one, couldn't be happier about it. You cannot sell the dream of the worker's paradise while the workers cook on firewood in the street and the hospitals run on flashlights. What is collapsing on Cuba, besides the buildings and the barely functioning cars, is the last functioning piece of evidence that the filthiest idea of the last century ever worked anywhere. Cuba's only real export was communism, and it's about to be permanently discontinued. And the world will be lighter for it.

The Iranian regime would love nothing more than for Congress to tie the President’s hands in the middle of a crisis. That’s exactly what the Iran War Powers Resolution would do.   Iran has spent decades funding terrorist proxies, murdering Americans, attacking our allies, targeting commercial shipping, and openly chanting “Death to America.” Now some in Congress want to advertise to that regime that they must pre-approve every possible military response.   That’s not restraint. That’s strategic stupidity.   No one is calling for another Iraq War. But removing credible deterrence from the Commander in Chief in the middle of an escalating conflict only emboldens the regime in Tehran and the terrorists they bankroll.   Peace through strength still matters. Weakness gets people killed.

Iran’s demands over the Strait of Hormuz demonstrate that Iranian officials believe they won the war because formalizing Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz is a territorial claim on the sovereign territory of another country. Iran released a map of a Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA)-defined maritime zone on May 20. The PGSA’s new map appears to expand Iran’s claimed management zone beyond the area Iran previously depicted on May 4. The new PGSA-defined zone runs from Kuh Mobarak in Iran to southern Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the east and from the end of Gheshm Island in Iran to Umm al Qaiwain in the UAE in the west. This change lays explicit claim to control over the territorial waters of the UAE and Oman.
