We are in the middle of a Customer Service crisis. Many companies continue to spend less and less in this area and view it as trivial. They're reducing headcount, increasing hold times, enforcing stingier refund policies, training their agents poorly, resorting to bots, and pretty much doing EVERYTHING in their power to save themselves as much money as possible at the expense of their users' time, money and sanity. Well you know what? It's time to take a stand. This year, I encourage all of you to FIGHT for that refund or other compensation that you are owed. It's your hard-earned money and you should have it, not some careless entity that gave you terrible service. Demand to speak to a Supervisor until an agent complies, even if they insist that it won't do anything. Dispute charges with your credit or debit card. Report companies to the Better Business Bureau and publicize their negligence on social media and Trustpilot. Threaten to switch to a competitor and actually do it if you have to. If a business doesn't care about you, then they don't deserve your business. And if the dollar amount that you are owed is substantial, take the company to Small Claims Court. It's easy to open a case and you can represent yourself. These companies are relying on all of us to concede defeat and stomach the loss. And they're hoping that this status quo never changes. The last car we bought was a @Tesla Model Y. Painless purchase process. No salespeople, no showroom, no upsells, no games, no haggling, no pressure. Just a personal choice on my own time, and a simple few-minute process handled entirely via a clear and straightforward app. The next car we're buying is from another brand. And holy hell, it feels like I'm going back in time. Salespeople, back-and-forth charades, pricing games, "when can you come in?" before the deal is finalized tactics, etc. And I'm still doing it all via email so I don't have to deal with the showroom antics. I've modernized the process as much as I can from my side, and yet it's the same old same old. They don't even feel like the same thing. In one case I'm buying a car with all the baggage that comes with buying a car. In the other case I'm buying a Tesla with none of the baggage of buying a car. This experience could make me lament this other brand, but what it really does is make me appreciate and respect the lengths to which Tesla has fully reconfigured the car buying experience. It's become effortless, like buying any other product. As it should be. A car is just another product. Bravo.

Why is every single company "experiencing a high volume of calls and higher than usual wait times" whenever you call them? It's the same across almost every organisation. Perhaps they're too ashamed to say they sacked everyone but a skeleton staff of call takers?

It’s surprising to me that @AmericanAir doesn’t know the law. If an airline cancels your flight, you get a refund, regardless of ticket type. Not flight credit, a refund. @USDOT Round 3 of trying to get my money back after AA canceled in the NY snowstorm 2 weeks ago, coming up.

Equinox's gym policies are actually hilariously absurd If for some reason, you want to pause your membership, you can do so for 90 days But you have to pay a non-refundable $50 fee every 15 days you remain on freeze Plus, you get charged a $300 one-time freeze fee Meaning you pay $600 just to pause your membership for 3 months.

@SadCustomers I'll defend Southwest airlines. It was one of the few that treated customers with grace vs passengers on Con Air. A company with functional self-service systems and call centers with US personnel who pick up within 2 minutes.

Using headphones is no longer just considered proper etiquette, it's now a requirement on United Airlines flights. United says passengers who use speakers and refuse to wear headphones could be removed from flights and even face a lifetime ban.The airline says travelers who don't have headphones can request a free pair from flight attendants.
