29 trains run between Tambaram - Villupuram (at least 5 days in a week). Yet there’s no direct train between Chennai - Tiruvannamalai. Slots that are more than an hour with no trains between Tambaram - Villupuram: 00:22 - 05:22 (5 hours gap) 05:22 - 07:10 (1h 48m) 08:27 - 09:40 (1h 13m) 09:40 - 11:07 (1h 27m) 11:07 - 13:42 (2h 35m) 13:42 - 15:30 (1h 48m) 18:42 - 19:42 (1h) Between 00:45 - 05:10 in a span of 4h 25m, a total of 18 daily trains travel between Villupuram - Tambaram with an average gap of 14 mins. Yet there are no trains between Villupuram - Tambaram in the following time slots that are more than an hour: 05:10 - 06:25 (1h 15m) 06:25 - 07:25 (1h) 07:25 - 09:30 (2h 5m) 10:05 - 11:25 (1h 20m) 11:50 - 13:30 (1h 40m) 13:30 - 16:30 (3h) 17:30 - 21:00 (5h 30m) 21:00 - 00:45 (3h 45m) The route between Tambaram - Villupuram will run full even if we run EMU trains every hour, a perfect candidate for RRTS. There are significant time slot gaps that can be filled. We need MEMU trains between Tambaram - Tiruvannamalai, Tambaram - Cuddalore. The route between Cuddalore - Cuddalore - Vridhachalam - Salem remain unconnected with Chennai. There can be a day time express between Tambaram - Vridhachalam - Salem (can even be extended upto Coimbatore). We also need a MEMU between Tambaram - Villupuram - Cuddalore - Vridhachalam that would serve the unconnected towns like Neyveli, Vadalur, Kurinjipadi. Following trains could be introduced without a second thought on patronage: Tambaram - Tiruvannamalai MEMU, Tambaram - Cuddalore/Vridhachalam MEMU via Cuddalore, Tambaram - Vridhachalam - Salem/Coimbatore daytime intercity express. The extent of buses plying between Chennai to Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Salem are enormous yet these locations remain unconnected/underserved by railways. High time MPs from these regions follow up with Railway ministry & get these train services.

More satellite urban towns are making around Salem like #Omalur, #Tharamangalam, #Ilampilllai, #Kakkapalayam, #Magudanchavadi, #Attayampatti, #Vennandur (Namakkal) and #Mallur.
Also the phase 1 #RingRoad is planned along these satellite towns.
In addition, Number of #Urban Villages are also higher around Salem, it will make Salem, A biggest Urban Center in future.
In this view, we need Salem Urban Development Authority as soon as possible for planned development.
