@the_smart_ape Never use Wi-Fi without a password, could be unencrypted. Could be an “evil twin” attack - a hacker creates an SSID with the same Wi-Fi name & spoofed branded landing page. If you don’t use a VPN then you’re wide open, attacker could be up to 150M away.

@intell_on_chain @BleepinComputer Very clever scam, probably more who got hit and just don’t want to admit it. The Ledger breach caused a lot of SIM swaps and the list is still being used today to target people. The Coinbase data will be used for mobile SIM swaps as well, beware and prepare.

🚨 The Fake Ledger That Stole Everything (1/8) James* thought he was safe. He used a Ledger hardware wallet, kept his 24 words private, and followed every crypto security tip out there. Then one day… a package arrived. 🧵👇

@KP4NC @WhitlockJason Remember when the NFL hid brain injuries. Did you call all the whistleblowers stupid and ignorant back then as well? NFL is guilty of hiding evidence in the past, Pfizer has been fined billions for fraud in the past. How much did they fund your campaign?

No one is interested in what caused Damar Hamlin's cardiac arrest? No one in corporate media? Everyone seemed excited to blame football. Now nothing. How come?

@TeamYouTube Glad to see @TeamYouTube is working on this. I definitely saw a drop in our YT channel views which made no sense as it was growing steadily and then slam.

Since most carriers are prone to data breaches, stolen data typically include IMEI numbers. In this video, you’ll learn about #IMEI numbers, how hackers could exploit them, and address a fair amount of misconceptions that exist surrounding IMEIs: youtu.be/OVYsi-fHAz0

@elonmusk @waitbutwhy in a normal time, it would make an incredible SNL skit. Have them train Peterson and Trump at the same time.

@elonmusk @schrep try using GPS in Jakarta, Bangalore, Delhi... Even GPS can be too slow for it to be usable during rush hour.

@schrep Twitter is very slow in India, Indonesia & many other countries. This is fact, not “claim”. 10 to 15 secs to refresh homeline tweets is common. Sometimes, it doesn’t work at all, especially on Android phones. Only question is how much delay is due to bandwidth/latency/app.

Basic internet math for @elonmusk's claim load time in India is 20s because of 1200 RPC calls (v.s. 2s in US): Bangalore->SF is ~250ms 1200 *.25s = 5 minutes! Way off!! 20s load time = MAX of 80 sequential calls Reality is likely 5-10? 1200 is happing inside datacenter?
Elon Musk@elonmusk

@sampullara I was told ~1200 RPCs independently by several engineers at Twitter, which matches # of microservices. The ex-employee is wrong. Same app in US takes ~2 secs to refresh (too long), but ~20 secs in India, due to bad batching/verbose comms. Actually useful data transferred is low.

@elonmusk I paid the $4.99 with no Blue Check showing. Do I now have to cancel the subscription after paying $4.99 and then buy a new $7.99 subscription?

@JesseSchoberg do you think the issue is that they need to check ID? When I was in Mexico City I wanted to purchase a prepaid SIM and they required ID. Most the world requires ID checks in person so they track.

I love the eSim technology but the providers really need to catch up for this to work as intended. I just spoke to Telcel and AT&T in Mexico and neither of them provide a remote way to send you a new eSim when you get a new phone (or lose one). “Technology” companies 🤔

@duborges @JesseSchoberg SIM swaps are the same for physical or eSIMs. Comes down to the verification of the customer and who has access to make the change. I was SIM swapped by a 3rd party mobile store employee 3k miles away in 2019, they lied to the computer that I was there with my passport.

@JesseSchoberg SIM Swap is huge with physical sims, I wonder what’s going to happen when eSIM’s become a thing. That might be one of the reasons why providers are taking so long to make it work properly.

@briankrebs Brian, you published an article on SIM swaps in July and this post is tied to the SIM swap issue. Data breaches are providing hackers the ammunition to then SIM swap people to steal their crypto, email, or hack into business assets. This is an alarming post.

A large, new stolen data set incl. 22.8M email addresses and 23M SSNs surfaced in the dark web recently. Many clues suggest it's from AT&T customers. AT&T says the data didn't come from their systems, and may be tied to data incident at another company. krebsonsecurity.com/2022/08/it-mig…
