@adamscochran I just don’t understand how to consistently read anything you have to say. The cognitive dissonance between your bag bias and your stated beliefs is impossibly obvious no matter how hard you try to pretend no causation.

Marandi is one of the more interesting follows from the Iranian side in news flow. Part of the negotiation team, in part due to his fluency in English, deeply familiar with the US, and not part of the official government. While every participant has an agenda, his takes have been fairly candid compared to even those coming from the current Iranian regime.
Seyed Mohammad Marandi@s_m_marandi

In my opinion, the White House and US media are lying about direct negotiation plans between Iran and the Trump regime - so they can later dishonestly claim Iran broke its promises, helping "justify" further aggression to the American people. The Islamic Republic is prepared.

@YVindman @farnsjennifer Well in absolute 0 support of Trump’s decisions, if you think China needs any help at this they’re definitely not following Zachary Cohen from CNN.

Military analysts say that the terms of the ceasefire in Iran represent a colossal defeat for the US. A guy who beats his girlfriends and drinks five gin-and-tonics by 11 am says it's a great victory, guided by Jesus. For busy Americans, it can be hard to know who to trust.

@DCinvestor The reality is this is the reality you work yourself into in an effort to absolve yourself from ever definitively picking a side in public discourse due to fear of a bruised ego.

the reality a lot of people won't want to hear is there is a non-zero chance that if we had gotten Kamala, she'd be doing this war too most won't remember, but there was a 60 Minutes interview where she was asked who the greatest adversary to the US was, and she answered Iran at the time, i thought it was a completely stupid answer when you could make better arguments for both Russia or China. while Iran was certainly a threat to many US interests, really no one could call it our "greatest adversary," but it was a signal that she'd fall in line and "do the needful" to whomever the message was intended i do think she'd likely have prosecuted the war in a way which was less retarded and perhaps diminished our global standing less than Trump has, but it's still an interesting counterfactual to think through that we might have been destined for this point no matter what

@deanwball Industry becomes government in a lot dog these scenarios so while your argument holds some merit it crumbles on future implications.

Pause AI rhetoric is predicated on the notion that the AI companies are recklessly racing toward dangerous tech and that a government controlled pause button is therefore necessary, but this seems really hard to reconcile with the fact that government is attempting to destroy an AI company because *the government* is racing toward plausibly dangerous AI uses (Sec. Hegseth has stated in official directives that he wants to deploy AI into critical systems regardless of whether it is aligned, for example) and *the company* is pushing back. The roles are totally reversed from the logic that Pause AI and frankly other AI safety advocates confidently assumed for years. It is *industry* that is in favor of alignment and at least somewhat measured deployment risks, and government whose actions seem much closer to reckless. I predicted this for years. I said, in particular, that pauses and bans and licensing regimes gave government a dangerously high degree of control over AI, and that the incentives of government are much more dangerous than those of private industry with competitive market incentives. I believe the events of the last month are good evidence in favor of my view. At this point if you are an AI safety advocate whose policy proposals do not wrestle seriously with the brutal political economic reality of the state and AI, I don’t take you seriously. It gives me no pleasure to have been right about this, by the way. The state has an incredibly strong structural incentive to centralize power using AI, and we are, all of us, not so empowered to stop it. I am quite concerned about this.

I think if you pushed them for five minutes they'd agree that putting the federal government...right now... the same one that did the Anthropic stuff...in charge of approving AI products before deployment is an insane idea

some of you won't want to read this, but what keeps Ethereum and Bitcoin relevant is that they have highly ideologically-motivated roots, with intelligent and capable adherents, who come off to many as "cult members" because they have such faith in a stringent philosophy around the core principles which power the chain they are not tourists. they are consistent, over years and decades if your chain doesn't have ideological adherents, then it's not important. it will never be important you're participating in a database which will eventually be replaced by a faster database public blockchains are meant to have core principles and ultimately derive relevance from the social consensus they create based on those principles. they're meant to stand forever

With the DJ Moore acquisition the Bills are likely out of the FA market at WR and likely won’t be using a high asset on WR in the draft as they have significant holes along the IOL and on defense. … The double dip is likely Brandin Cooks or a 4th rounder … for a 29 year old WR2

i am guilty of not having had the grotesque imagination needed to realize that we are ruled, publicly and privately, by a dark and twisted transnational pedo class who believe they are above every rule, and in order to prove it to each other, they partake in the most extreme and most reprehensible of behaviors it is only being exposed now because people can communicate freely over the internet. and it was buried for decades because they control the traditional media i will never reflexively dismiss any “conspiracy theory” ever again
