"Your father built an automated freight forwarding platform, took down CargoWise, Descartes, and Flexport… and was kind enough to give @typesfast job after."

imagine if someone pitched a new religion.
“the problem”
- belief systems haven’t had a proper update in 2,000+ years
- poor onboarding: dense texts, contradictory ux, & zero personalization
- zero interoperability between platforms (wars)
- retention rates plummeting (esp gen z)
- community engagement is stagnant or fake
- customer support = prayer. no sla.

@herbiebradley @sporadica In his post-idealist, pragmatist arc.

i see far too many tech bros falling into the following categories all at once:
- talks up a big game about Trump and MAGA
- considers oneself libertarian/libertarian-adjacent
- repetitively proclaims support for increasing the power of the executive (when that admin is Trump)
and yet they see no inherent dissonance in their views. they must either be stupid or actively lying to push a hidden agenda.
more often than not, i think it's the former lol

@DefenderOfBasic And why so many of us these days lack the conceptualisation needed to embody certain virtues (namely temperance and chastity) because we stopped using these words.
Utilitarian/economic language replaced moral language in pop culture and we need to bring it back.
English

there was no word before vibe, people just didn't talk about the concept. Language shapes what concepts we think about
pep-talk-beast@RoughlyTweeting
@DefenderOfBasic what word did people use before vibe?

@bryan_johnson The forever search of new problems to solve for. Since we don't understand the real mechanisms of creativity in the human mind, I'm unsure if AI can be sufficiently creative to do better at problem discovery than us. Unless it develops that trait on accident. Possibly.

@DavidSHolz Absolutely. Every dream we analyse is a ghost we give life to, and get blessed by.

@IterIntellectus X actually feels 10x more fulfilling when you close the app if you read each word of each post of your feed, in order with no skips.

@BasedNorthmathr And also reminds me a tad of how flat earth conspiracy theorists kind of disappeared when Qanon gained traction.
Seems like a platform change for a different, but fundamentally similar memetic hype train.
English

@BasedNorthmathr Honestly so sad. Reminds me of this stat:
45% of people 16-25, in a survey published in The Lancet Planetary Health, said their feelings about climate change negatively affected their daily life and functioning.
It's an attempt to control a super abstract, unidentified anxiety.

Another thread from the PauseAI discord. It’s no big deal to disagree with these guys at the surface level. We think each other wrong, whatever.
What the deeper problem is, is that this is a cult ideology that is robbing young talented people of their mental health. That’s evil

Angantýr@BasedNorthmathr
Thread from the PauseAI discord. This is not a dunk on any of these people, I believe they’re victims of a malicious ideology. “Mental health support groups” “Months of grief” “I panicked for 6 months… to save my family”

3 months ago, I got rejected from @theresidency... Yesterday, I moved into Kairos the newest Residency house as the founder and organizer of the entire house! So hosting a lunch party this Saturday to celebrate: lu.ma/qcu1qnri This is how I hacked my way in: 🧵

@suntzoogway Uft looks great. Ever organise these in LA? You'd have one attendee minimum in me.

I leave SF tomorrow, so I decided I'd organize an impromptu meet. When in SF use Luma! My first one :)

@tszzl Yeah good point. There are also a few tells that suggest AI generated. I bet admission departments screen for it.
Above all though, they come across as a flight risk. Drop-out rates and employment after 6 months are weighted highly in college rankings. Entrepreneurship is risky.

It's actually mind-blowing that the current leader of the world's most populous country @narendramodi sat down with @lexfridman for over 3 hours.
What other A-tier leaders would do that?
Probably less than 5.

@AutismCapital I think it's tied to self-efficacy and having an internal locus of control. We can only strive for what we aim for, and only aim for what we believe we can achieve.
Those who don't visualise a better life prefer to explain success away to greed/luck to relieve mental pressure.
English

It's hard to understand the mindset that leads to the extreme hatred/vitriol towards success that we see today. Why does someone not want to be successful? When you look at a figure of someone who has something, don't you feel the urge to strive to achieve? Don't you want to get better? Grow? Get stronger, richer, healthier, whatever it is? Why look at someone who has more and think "that's for THEM that's not for ME," and then fill your mind with hatred of the other. Why not try to get it yourself instead of wanting to tear down the work/achievement of someone else?
