In a recent study published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society, researchers from IIT Bombay and collaborators from IIT Kanpur and CNCI, Kolkata uncover how collagen accelerates clumping of hormones in the pancreas, identifying a previously unknown diabetes trigger and a potential new drug target. They have identified an important missing link: fibrillar collagen I, a major component of the extracellular matrix.
