I sat through the most unconventional Elders Quorum meeting of my life today. It was AWESOME! Today was the first EQ meeting of our brand new ward in Tennessee. We met in the high council room, sitting face-to-face in a circle around the large conference table. No way you were gonna zone out on your phone there! To start the meeting, we stood and sang "Rise up, O Men of God." That alone was powerful. Many of us hadn't sung a men’s hymn like that since the last General Conference Priesthood session. Then we were invited to huddle shoulder to shoulder-- like a football team-- to bow our heads and pray specifically for one another and the brotherhood we were forming. We went around the room and each brother shared a bit about himself, including one way he saw the Lord's hand during the past week, and one way he planned to sacrifice for his God and his family during the upcoming week. The atmosphere loosened quickly. Testimonies grew personal as men discussed trials, admitted to slipping in their scripture study, and shared miraculous ways God showed up in their lives. Then the EQ Presidency member leading the meeting shared the "lesson." He choked up a bit and couldn't explain why. That's okay. 😉 He told us every meeting would follow this format: join in a mighty song of Zion, prayer shoulder to shoulder, and "speak one with another concerning the welfare of our souls." And every member should feel free to ask for a priesthood blessing from his brothers in the quorum. One good brother raised his hand and asked for a blessing for the circumstances going on in his life. When volunteers were asked to form the circle, many hands went up-- even brothers who didn't know him. There were snacks, too. Chips, candy bars, even protein bars for the gym bros. Then another football huddle closing prayer. Our first quorum activity is already scheduled. We're meeting at a brother's house to grill chicken. Each member is bringing a side and his favorite rub or marinade (drop your best recipe in the comments). I listened to the quorum members talking in the hallway after the meeting. The consensus: "That was the best quorum meeting I've ever had. For the first time in my adult life, I'm actually excited about Elders Quorum!" I've heard of wards who've done this format from @LeadingSaints, @CwicShow, and others, but I'd never actually seen it before. It was really cool to be a part of. I'm pumped to see where this will lead for our brand new Elders Quorum brotherhood! PS: the EQ Presidency member who ran this first meeting is here on X, too. @ShaunTagatauli. Give him a follow. As pertaining to your question. Faith is something you have to increase possessing. Faith is a time question. You already know you have faith because you started the business and you're in it. The question now is how long will it last? Your development as a business leader will determine the length of your faith. This will be because of your commitment to study, learning, making mistakes and continuing forward. The length of your faith will be guided by your perspective of where you want to go. What you need is Hope! Hope is the driving force behind your faith. Hope will help you through the dark times and the financial stress. Hope will keep the negative feelings outside of your spouse and children and still see a brighter future. Hope will help you perform all the duties of the business owner until you receive more revenue. Hope will give you revelation and inspiration to changing and shaping your business to move it in the direction it needs to go. However, the true power of hope is feeling joy in the present and not waiting for the future... if you are filled with hope, you will experience happiness as if your dreams had already come true. Hope is what you seek. And you know what I'm gonna say about faith and hope when you possess both right??? You will feel the desire to be more charitable towards others. Hope this helps.

@prockwellbg We're getting better. People need to remember that forgiveness happens first when someone repents. Forgiveness happens at the beginning not the end.

Fun fact: The Miracle of Forgiveness was banned in my mission!

We can definitely do better at teaching. Our members also need to do better at learning. You were absolutely saved as all of our members are. However, Jesus opens the door and removes the barrier, but we decide how much of Jesus we want to experience in the next life. Worthiness means preparedness. Being prepared is up to us.

@FurkanGozukara I was 50 years active member of the Mormon church. I stopped attending 6 years ago. Not once in 50 y I felt I was saved. In a miraculous way the Lord rescued me and taught me that Salvation is His gift to me. I accepted repented n bern following Him. No longer trying 2 b worthy

Something I started noticing over time were differences between the Book of Mormon and the Bible that honestly made me stop and think The Bible teaches God is unchanging (Malachi 3:6) but the Book of Mormon describes God as once being like man and progressing. The Bible says salvation is by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8–9) but the Book of Mormon says “after all we can do” which is saying works are part of it too. The Bible teaches there is one God (Isaiah 43:10) while LDS teachings include multiple gods and the idea that people can become gods. The Bible says Jesus’ sacrifice was once and for all (Hebrews 10:10) but LDS doctrine adds ordinances and requirements. And the Bible doesn’t really support ongoing new scripture the same way LDS teachings do Another thing that stood out to me is how much the Book of Mormon overlaps with the Bible. There are hundreds of verses that are really similar or even word for word from the King James Bible especially Isaiah and even parts like the Sermon on the Mount. Some estimates say around 20 to 30 percent of it uses biblical language or parallels. What made me pause is that it uses the same wording and even some of the same translation quirks from the King James Bible which was written in the 1600s And then there are the historical things I never really heard about growing up. The Book of Mormon talks about animals like horses and cattle in ancient America but there’s no solid evidence they were there at that time. It also mentions steel chariots and large civilizations but archaeology hasn’t really backed that up. DNA shows Native American ancestry tracing back to East Asia not the Middle East like the Book of Mormon suggests. And “Reformed Egyptian” isn’t something we have any record of existing Something else I started noticing is that there are even contradictions within the Book of Mormon itself and that honestly made me pause. Like in Jacob 2 it speaks strongly against polygamy but then leaves room for it if God commands it. It also says God invites everyone equally but then describes certain groups being cursed with dark skin. And there are moments where things just don’t fully line up whether it’s doctrine timelines or just details in the story. The Book of Mormon we have today isn’t exactly the same as the 1830 version. It has been updated multiple times like 1837 1840 1879 1920 and later with thousands of changes. There also isn’t just one clear account of how it was translated. Sometimes it’s described using the Urim and Thummim other times a seer stone in a hat and some say a mix of both. Different witnesses even describe it differently For me it wasn’t just one thing it was a pattern and I couldn’t ignore it. Learning all of this made me step back and really question it.

What is the most misunderstood doctrine in the Church? One answer only.

Is God good? If we are Gods children, then we are inherently good. If we are children of Lucifer, then we are inherently evil. How can you tell? People's actions and behavior will manifest their creator. Because we live in a fallen world, and although we are inherently good, we are influenced by both good and evil. God did this so that we can use our free will to choose Him. It's a type of proving that will prepare us for the eternities. Because we are allowed to choose, God sent Jesus Christ to show us how to choose the good and be good. Jesus' atonement made it possible for us to not let our evil choices be held against us. He also made it possible for us to learn and change and ultimately keep progressing forward to be good, like Him.

Are people inherently GOOD or BAD? How do you know?

@DrFrankTurek I should say we are not the source of evil much like we are not the source of good. We act by choosing one or the other.

@DrFrankTurek Frank - if God stops evil tonight we would still be here. We don't create evil. We choose it... that's the essence of our existence, to choose good from evil. We don't create evil just like we don't create good.

@LDS_Dems The English translation doesn't do Eve's attributes justice. The word in Hebrew is Ezer. The Greek word is Boetheos. It literally means the type of help that saves. In other words, it means Eve was Adam's salvation. Heed not the naysayers.

@Latterdaytruth Full disclosure: NOT A MEMBER. Why are members restricted to a certain Ward? Why can’t members pick and choose where and when they want to worship. I’ve never really understood that. We have Missionaries coming over tonight, I’ll ask them the same thing and compare answers.
