I’ve always believed the No.1 application of AI should be to improve human health. That work started with AlphaFold, and now at @IsomorphicLabs with the mission to reimagine drug discovery and one day solve all disease! We are turbocharging that goal with $2.1B in new funding.

@drjohnm Quite surprising that the data monitoring committee decided that mitigation rather than ending the trial on safety grounds was the right way forwards..and changing to lower Chadsvasc score? that changes a number of factors i.e healthier, 'less' persistent etc affecting outcomes

Summary: Despite the accolades and celebration and NEJM publication, this is clearly not a win for the FARAPULSE PFA system. 6 strokes. 5% complication rate and no difference in symptomatic AF despite using terrible AAD choices A column is coming

Here we go #HRS2026 On the highly touted AVANT GAURD RCT of Boston scientific Farapulse PFA vs AAD. nejm.org/doi/full/10.10… The Topline results are positive. Look at that KM curve But let's look under the hood so as not to be bamboozled A thread coming and it's quite surprising

@NobelPrize It is simple really. Neither of these two deserve it for different reasons. Therefore be brave and offer it to the next best candidate for it, on last years nominations..and if you struggle then symbolically offer it to someone like me. I have never started a war and want peace!

Statement from the Nobel Foundation One of the core missions of the Nobel Foundation is to safeguard the dignity of the Nobel Prizes and their administration. The Foundation upholds Alfred Nobel’s will and its stipulations. It states that the prizes shall be awarded to those who "have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind," and it specifies who has the right to award each respective prize. A prize can therefore not, even symbolically, be passed on or further distributed. For additional information, please refer to the Norwegian Nobel Committee: nobelpeaceprize.org/press/press-re…

Senior doctors in the NHS should press @wesstreeting and @DHSCgovuk for #fullpayrestoration for resident doctors - that is the way to avoid industrial action Real terms pay cuts to resident doctors - and for that matter consultants - need to be corrected if we want to attract and retain the best clinicians in the NHS Doctors' salaries in Ireland, Australia and Canada are double those in the UK and we're losing talented doctors from the NHS because of this @BMAResidents @TheDA_UK @TheBMA @BMA_James_Steen @Anisocyte @ExplosiveEnema2 @DrLKVaughan @DrNeenaJha @DrSteveTaylor @Azeem_Majeed @kiityc @ERunswickBMA @Shr_Nottingham

@RhythmDoc01 @anish_koka @drjohnm I meant irrelevant in the absence of a comparator group. Would you agree that we can't be sure if the practice of LAAO has been beneficial/not in these medicare patients?

@SheffieldRhythm @anish_koka @drjohnm It’s relevant in that the mortality benefit of the device was evident in trials only at the five year mark, and insofar as the strategy of “just don’t anticoagulate them” is often undersold in patients with a high short term mortality.

@tomdepotter Why do CTI when we know that PVI gets rid of the majority of CTI flutter? And if you feel compelled to do it why take the risk using potentially harmful energy source??

I don’t understand the desire for (right) flutter ablation with large single shot PFA. It’s not as if safe and efficient CTI ablation is an unmet need in EP. Clearly spasm is not innocent, as this data also shows. Reminds me of cryoballoon ablation of the posterior wall which I’ve often compared to trying to open a bottle of wine with a fork: it may be the only tool you have at hand at a given moment trying to achieve a particular goal and sure, it’s doable if you are desperate enough. That doesn’t make it a particularly bright idea though.

⚠️ WARNING: Think Twice Before Visiting the Illegally Occupied Areas of Cyprus!⚠️ Travelers, please reconsider any plans to visit the so-called “turkish republic of northern Cyprus”, an area under illegal Turkish occupation since 1974, recognized only by Turkey and condemned internationally. Your “dream” vacation could turn into a nightmare due to serious safety and legal risks that many tourists overlook. First and foremost, visitors face the real risk of arbitrary detention or being held without due process, essentially like being abducted and held hostage, by the occupying regime who often ignore legal protections. Detention facilities there fall short of international standards, and the “police” has been accused of coerced confessions and violations of rights. Even minor infractions, like taking photos or looking suspicious in their eyes, can lead to severe penalties, long jail terms, or heavy fines, with zero tolerance enforced strictly. Compounding this danger, there’s no international diplomatic representation in the occupied north because all countries don’t recognize this illegal entity. If you’re detained or in trouble, contacting your embassy for help will be extremely difficult, leaving you isolated and vulnerable with minimal consular support. Human rights reports highlight how arbitrary arrests occur, and without proper access to your government, resolving issues could drag on indefinitely. If you’re thinking of buying property? Don’t! Much of the land in the occupied areas is stolen from displaced Greek Cypriots. Purchasing or exploiting it is illegal under Cypriot and international law, making you complicit in a criminal act. You’ll face civil lawsuits from rightful owners, and penalties can include years imprisonment, triggering European Arrest Warrants or international prosecution anywhere in the EU and beyond. Over 120 such warrants have already been issued, and courts like the European Court of Human Rights have repeatedly ruled against these transactions. Any “title” you get is null and void, you will lose everything. This isn’t just politics, it’s about your safety, freedom, and avoiding lifelong legal headaches. Support justice by boycotting the occupied areas, visit the legitimate Republic of Cyprus instead.

@wesstreeting Your statement "the majority of resident doctors in the BMA did not vote to strike” is so strikingly misleading. You will lose credibility and people will question your ability to comprehend more complex issues. And paying newly qualified PAs more than resident doctors!?!

A pay rise of 28.9%. The highest pay rise in the entire public sector this year. A genuine commitment to work together on things like rotations, placements, progression. These are NOT the conditions for strike action. I urge the BMA to work with me.

@Dominik_Linz @drjohnm I wonder what proportion of patients can adhere to lifestyle modification long-term in real life. It's easier in the setting of a clinical trial over a year to achieve these secondary endpoints with LM. But one has to try nevertheless...

Prague 25 It is a negative trial: Catheter ablation was superior to lifestyle management combined with drugs in improving freedom from AF at one year. But: 👉🏻take a look at the secondary endpoints… Relying solely on catheter ablation for the management of AF may overlook the importance of comprehensive management strategies that address underlying comorbidities, symptom burden, and overall health status! -> lifestyle management remains the main pillar of AF management 👉🏻CARE-AF! @goldstone_tony @wesstreeting @BMAResidents No quote marks means it's not a quote. As you say, I don't write headlines. However, effect of a coordinated strike would equal headline. It is what would happen and that is what they spoke to clearly. The story fully explains the position and I think the headline reflects that.
