Prediction: within the next year we will have our first major scandal/news cycle around some act recorded on film, where one side will claim it's AI and the other will claim it real, and neither side will be able to conclusively prove their claim.

@emnode @deepfates I haven't used the other systems in a bit, but Claude has push-to-talk mode that does exactly this. I just hold down the button until I'm done with my thought.

@deepfates I would use voice mode more often with AI if they made it like a walkie talkie. I can't form my thoughts without pausing for 3 seconds and having the AI jump in

If you haven't used Chat GPT voice mode in a while you've probably don't know realize how bad it is. No wonder normal people think AI can't do anything right

@mamimiFLCL I'm once again begging everyone to read Astielle by Kitty Unpretty, a web novel that goes "wow if a villain and a hero and a princess were locked in an eternal cycle of reincarnation and struggle that would have fascinating deep character implications." Also they ALL bang freaky.

correct me if I’m wrong but every ganondorf you meet is the same person from all the games but Link and Zelda are reincarnations?

@SnoogieDougie @espurrs_eyes @gaykittycorps I had a close friend who was an intensive care nurse during COVID. Spending every day losing multiple patients to COVID despite best efforts and coming home to people say it was a fake pandemic fundamentally broke her as as person. Would be fascinated to see that story.

@espurrs_eyes @gaykittycorps The Pitt has dabbled in covid and a big part of the overarching plot of the show is PTSD directly caused by the pandemic but that’s about it And I’d be very interested in a realistic Covid era hospital drama because it’s hard for me to actually visualise

@DefenceOsint @Jonpy99 Don't sweat it, in English "conclusion" was the right word to use here, you're asking a valid question. Not sure why OP was so hostile about it.

@hanavulyric @thatfrood Yes! I don't even know the origin, but there's something about this phrase where the construction just clicks with the male cishet brain.

@nikicaga I am increasingly convinced that any discussion with these people needs to begin with "establishing that facts exist, the difference between true/false, and that words do in fact mean things." From there we can move on to "what is a government and why should it exist?"

@lilbluecaboose @LOVETHEW0RLD Exactly! I remember really struggling with dual stick control when I first picked it up! It's just that I was seven years old and I've had a lot of practice since then.

@SirJuggles34 @LOVETHEW0RLD Yeah, the dual stick was challenging even when I was first getting into console gaming, and even that was with already grasping the basics of moving on PC. (My mom, meanwhile, was always pretty tech illiterate, so the console controller was extra rough for her)

I've been playing video games since I was like 5 so I'm able to rely on my experience, but playing with people who just don't play games really makes me think about how something that comes naturally to me, like the ability to "read" a level, is a skill you need to work at

@Sharadleh @LOVETHEW0RLD Gaming has given me a hyper awareness of systems: what inputs do I have control over, and what are the results of manipulating those inputs? This applies from everything from accounting to project management to politics.

@LOVETHEW0RLD People scoff at games but there’s a lot of real world application of skills you acquire from games. Like your ability to “read”. To break down what’s in front of you and figure out quickly how to navigate the problem. We Gamers™️ take for granted how hard it is for non gamers

@lilbluecaboose @LOVETHEW0RLD I've found dual-stick character/camera control can be extremely challenging for folks coming to video games as adults. They always end up looking at the ceiling, where a more experienced player unconsciously makes micro-adjustments to compensate the camera.

@LOVETHEW0RLD i noticed this showing my mom a video game once-- even things like moving through space were challenging, much less keeping the camera pointed at everything. (also it was hitman which would normally be a bad choice but i wanted her to see sapienza)

@JokingDev @LOVETHEW0RLD Wife and I had to put that game down at the Shield Wasp fight, both players have to hit their shots in a certain time frame in order to progress and she couldn't dodge & line her cursor up on the target accurately before the window expired and it drove her to tears.

@LOVETHEW0RLD For real. I played the first level of 'It takes two' with a girl who doesn't game and she was having so much trouble just moving around, let alone timing her jumps or navigating the level.

@katienotopoulos For any wondering: this is because siblings will usually act as normal group members, forming bonds independently, but whenever people get deeply involved or there's drama they will 100% back each other to the death and leave anyone who wasn't expecting it hanging out to dry

An extremely rare dynamic you may only come across a few times in your life is when a brother and sister are part of the same social/friends group. These siblings will be extremely fun but will also ruin many lives.

@bkpark @dan_gaffa @nikicaga Even if you popped in right in front of a shark, they're pretty much guaranteed to take at least 30 seconds figuring out what this strange new thing in front of them is before chomping on you. And the % chance of even being near a shark is infinitesimal.

thinking about this tweet today. generative AI has done a wonderful thing; now everyone can have their own horse kicking them in the head even if they aren't a billionaire. and now billionaires can have two horses kicking them in the head at all times. a very valuable service

@archon @PunishedErik This is similar to the problem of online FPS games: from a player standpoint it is difficult to consistently separate "I want to have fun" from "I want to win". As a result, many players (not all) will seek ways to win more, which in turn leads to stagnant "meta" play.

This has implications for RPG design. No matter how broad your play space, players seeking an advantage will find local optima. This will narrow the play space. It eventually leads to "perfect" play which in turn becomes perceived as boring and robotic. Viewed from this perspective, the constant introduction of "splat books" and new content is actually an important aspect of game longevity. By constantly changing the rules, you avoid players being able to find one fixed optimal strategy and then getting bored. Of course, too much change renders prior skill and talent moot, and must be avoided. Balance is required. For many years the designers of Magic: The Gathering were the best in the industry at managing this.

I have a bunch of secret AI benchmarks I only reveal when they fall, and today one did. I give the AI 1000 words written by me and never published, and ask them who the author is. They generally give flattering wrong answers (see ChatGPT, below:)
