@Ben_Davison1 Why have a 30% floor on cgt if it’s not going to be applied? It is going to be applied and those earning under 45k are going to be disproportionately impacted. Plenty of people live off investment earnings only.

The Wilsons are trying to convince people that the 30% tax on Capital Gains is unfair to “low income earners” A reminder that the 30% tax on wages applies from $45,000 (minimum wage approx) to $135,000 (35% ABOVE average wages) No one on less than minimum wage is an “investor”

@mikjcal @TMFScottP Why do you need an incentive? If you have capital, you have to decide which is the best way to deploy it based on risk/reward. Not tax treatment.

I’m disappointed they scrapped the CGT discount on shares. Remove it from housing, but then also removing to from shares literally removed the incentive for anyone to use investments to build wealth. Especially given the amount of younger people who invest in ETFs given the huge popularity of micro investing apps.

Really disappointed by the overreach of taxing Capital Gains at a minimum of 30% despite the taxpayers' marginal tax rate. A naked grab, and ignoring the fairness of assessing tax based on the taxpayers' marginal tax rate. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory #Budget2026

@taipan168 They are not many arguments for the preferential tax treatment of capital gains. Lower taxes generally, perhaps, but preferential treatment? The risk/reward argument is flawed as that is baked into acquisition price

If the mooted changes to CGT go ahead in tonight’s budget, Australia will have one of the highest rates of CGT in the OECD. Illustrates why a party of union hacks and political staffers does not understand how to manage the economy. afr.com/policy/economy…

The CGT change as has been floated would be disastrous for the start-up community in Australia, because employee share/option schemes would automatically be taxed at 50% since the indexation would be on a zero cost base. I just hope Chalmers is listening. afr.com/technology/cat…

@NeoBarcaVision @centregoals Reckless negligent. Lots of drivers kill other drivers through reckless/negligent actions. They go to jail even though it was an accident. Just because something was an accident, doesn’t mean you were an idiot for causing it. Punish accordingly.

@fern_rl @Math_files Two Tuesday boys is only one possible future outcome for a family that would have two kids: A Tuesday boy followed by a Tuesday boy. The reverse is the same sequence. Similarly, two heads is only 1 (not 2) of 4 possible outcomes, when flipping 2 coins.

@kicvesm @DropAPinShow Ok so you admit you got it wrong. I’ve witnessed a terrorist raid in Indonesia where 2 terrorists were killed. I was in Bali during the Bali bombings. Things are pretty moderate, but that doesn’t mean zero.

The theory of the case here is that “we can take away all your exports, and deny your rebuilding that infrastructure, at will now if you don’t stop shooting at civil ships.” The threat is not just about air strikes - Marine units are being dispatched to the gulf as part of strategic messaging. 1/3 🧵

@ethanmvfc Can’t blame popa. Players choosing one country over another is a massive life decision that you only do on the basis of what’s best for you. If snubbing Australia was the right decision for him, so be it. Means he thinks he’ll get more games for Croatia.

@StaniKulechov Akin to theft. You guys are so delusional that you can’t even accept that your system is to blame rather than the user. No user intends to lose $50m and if it happens on a swap, they are not to blame. You are. I hope you’re bankrupted.

Earlier today, a user attempted to buy AAVE using $50M USDT through the Aave interface. Given the unusually large size of the single order, the Aave interface, like most trading interfaces, warned the user about extraordinary slippage and required confirmation via a checkbox. The user confirmed the warning on their mobile device and proceeded with the swap, accepting the high slippage, which ultimately resulted in receiving only 324 AAVE in return. The transaction could not be moved forward without the user explicitly accepting the risk through the confirmation checkbox. The CoW Swap routers functioned as intended, and the integration followed standard industry practices. However, while the user was able to proceed with the swap, the final outcome was clearly far from optimal. Events like this do occur in DeFi, but the scale of this transaction was significantly larger than what is typically seen in the space. We sympathize with the user and will try to make a contact with the user and we will return $600K in fees collected from the transaction. The key takeaway is that while DeFi should remain open and permissionless, allowing users to perform transactions freely, there are additional guardrails the industry can build to better protect users. Our team will be investigating ways to improve these safeguards going forward.
