If you played professional basketball, you absolutely should never be allowed to play college basketball. It doesn’t take a braniac to figure this out. No wiggle room. Simple!

The Big Ten is pushing hard for a 24-team College Football Playoff. Expansion would help programs like Minnesota, but damage the long-term health of the sport. College football has never been the NFL, and it never should be. Column: si.com/college/minnes…

The Big Ten pushing for 24-team playoff is beyond shameful. The fiber, character and pure makeup of college football was meant for the regular season on Saturdays. Every game feeling important. 24 teams waters down product and I can promise you No. 14-24 will never win it all.

Kent State's Rob Senderoff on eligibility chaos 👀 "College basketball should be able to develop a set of rules, and whatever those rules are, that's the rules. There is no, 'I'm going to a judge to change the rules because it doesn't work for me'" 🎥: youtu.be/nMJnBMen_vY

The earliest possible vote for the NCAA’s age-based eligibility model is expected to be at the Division 1 Cabinet meeting at the end of June, per an NCAA official.   If passed, the details of implementation for current student-athletes with eligibility remaining is TBD.

When the NCAA decided that 400K was an amateur contract relative to basic cost and projected NIL it opened a large door that will not get closed and gets wider every day. If 400K contract is an automatic amateur and ok why is 500, 600 , NBA contract any different. We need to stop pretending rules exist and just open the door. Calling one coach moral and another not when no rules exist is wrong

Coaches are signing players that won't be eligible. Some are signing 25 year old European freshman. They are all hoping to find a local judge and win in court . Precedent has been established. Advice : Retain, recruit , use portal to fill in the blanks. Establish a culture

@goleador2519 @NotJ0NRoth The fact that the NCAA considers 400k and under an automatic amateur contract would make anyone push the envelope to challenge why would that mean 500k makes him a pro? Wait he signed an NBA contract oh that’s different, they’ve lost control it doesn’t not matter sign anyone now

@NotJ0NRoth It’s not just the NBA. It’s recruiting euro professionals also. NCAA is toast.

An anonymous top-15 coach recently told me the state of college basketball is “grim.” “When you have slimeball coaches recruiting players who’ve already been drafted into the NBA, it’s going to drive the legends of this sport away. Honestly, it’s something I’m considering myself.”

@NotJ0NRoth Can’t blame any coach for doing anything other than trying to do whatever they can to put together the best possible team. Who cares about NBA contracts or any contracts. Doesn’t matter anymore.

This is a huge part of the problem. Nothing against international kids or players but allowing pros huge deals has changed everything. Before 50k-100-200k playing pro internationally meant taking care of your family as an international kid so those kids stayed in those pro leagues, now they are all looking to go to NCAA teams. Under 400K is considered amateur by NCAA

It’s really sad, but after the first recruiting weekend for the 2027 high school class, I had a couple of coaching friends tell me this week they can only take one or two high school players because they have to save spots for the transfer portal. I guess these kids have to go to lower levels and work their way up. A very small percentage will stay anywhere for four/five years. The new normal. 🤷🏼‍♂️🏀

@franfraschilla But, why should a D-1 school outside of the top 6-7 conferences sign a high school player when (if he has decent talent) he will leave after 1 or 2 seasons?

They can but if a kid goes to say Siena and is scoring 14 points making 100k and gets offered 800k-1M to bump up to play at Syracuse which he will go just like you would likely leave your current job if someone offered you 10x to do the same thing, and have more fun. Syracuse takes the Siena kid, Siena takes another HS top player , but now with all the pro players available overseas the space for that HS kid bumps down again etc.. soon these top 200 players in HS will be playing D3..

@franfraschilla Why do they have to go to a lower level to go up, Fran? Why can't they just go to a really good school and receive a top notch education and have a great career?
