[NEW RESEARCH] Infection with Bartonella Established in Immune-compromised Mice, but not Immune-competent A few top researchers in the #tickborneinfection scientific community performed a study to establish a living organism model to study #Bartonella infection, treatments, and transmission dynamics in the future. Previous research on antibiotic susceptibility has been studied in vitro (outside living organisms). When immune-competent mice were injected with Bartonella, the infection was acute and resolved. When Bartonella was injected in immune-compromised mice, the infection persisted, which helped identify a living organism model where Bartonella persists. Could these findings be extrapolated to human infection with Bartonella? If so, this suggests immune suppression is a pivotal variable in determining if an infection becomes chronic. It could explain why some people exposed to a tickborne pathogen do not develop #chronicillness while others do. What suppresses the immune system?
