Interesting RCT in @NEJM about platelet transfusions prior to CVC placement in people w/ thrombocytopenia (Plt 10-50k): - higher rate of grade 2-4 bleeding w/o Plt transfusion: 11.9% vs 4.9% - difference driven by much more bleeding w/ subclavian lines nejm.org/doi/full/10.10… 1/

@gjr1837 @AmandaHempelMD @lazongs Capacity has been an issue for a long time (the real problem being health care cost). Capacity should have been addressed pre-COVID, so the system isn’t so fragile. China built new hospitals quickly when COVID came, not impossible to do.

@AmandaHempelMD @lazongs I recognize that Amanda. 400 hospitals in Ontario that averages 1 covid patient in ICU per hospital. With covid nearing 1 year and 2nd wave long known, there should have been additional capacity added, seeing electives are almost non existent today

@mmkwoo There are many, but to name a few examples I have (yes, i use POCUS) 1⃣objectively show constipation ➡️ helps clarify some inconsistent pt history 2⃣ presence of gas vs liquid in small bowel gives clue to mechanism of bloating 3⃣exclude IBD non-invasively during initial workup
